will poe 2 character names be account names? or unique?

I'd hope we don't have to make our names ridiculously complex like in poe1. ex: __C_loud___ and all this cloud_____ or cloud__ or ___clou__d__ lol Ive never experienced a game that does this.

edit: hide the discriminator # not sure why this is even visible should we be allowed a name change and to all be able to have the same name? I don't really want a completely weird name because a name is "taken". if it was "taken" we wouldn't have discriminator #'s ay?

Nobody knows yet. Probably not even GGG.

The main purpose of discriminators is the fact that multiple accounts/characters can use the same name hence the #number behind the name is different for all the accounts.

It can't be hidden because then people will be able to impersonate others. Jimmy#1234 is different from Jimmy#5678 but if you only see Jimmy vs Jimmy you have no way of telling who is who.

In poe1 currently cannot create another character with the same name which is kind of weird. I know people love diablo comparisons but in D4 you can actually name all your characters exactly the same.
