Fourth Vow + Unbreakable?
So both involve armor applied to chaos damage. Fourth Vow makes armour apply to chaos damage already
So does unbreakable apply another 15% of armor against chaos, or....? Thx :) Last bumped on Aug 27, 2024, 10:49:24 AM

No; the fourth vow just overrides that part of the talent.
Edit: This is somewhat of an assumption based on wording and armor behavior; you can't have more than 100% of your armor apply to anything, 100% means all of it. It's possible I'm wrong, but it's a safe bet it just doesn't work in this case. This is somewhat similar to phys taken as, where you can have more than 100% of phys damage taken as x - the percentages just get shrunk so that the total pool is 100% of the damage, rather than "taking" more than the original hit in base damage. Your total pool of armor is already applied to chaos damage, it can't be applied a second time. Last edited by Pathological#1188 on Aug 2, 2024, 8:06:11 PM

I think it might. I recently learned that if you have more than 100% damage taken as you take more damage. Which leads me to assuming that it actually might.

Because of the "applies to" wording, The Fourth Vow's modifier would take precedence over Unbreakable's modifier, and 100% of armor would be used to defend against Chaos damage. Two cases that illustrate this point would be Crown of Eyes and the Chieftan Ascendency "Tasalio, Cleansing Water".
Refer to Crown of Eyes on the wiki, and the explanation of how it works with Iron Will + Iron Grip. Iron Will makes strength's bonus to melee physical damage apply to spell damage, and Crown of Eyes makes 150% of spell damage apply to all attacks. Stacking Iron Grip on top of that does not give you a greater damage bonus to ranged attacks: the 150% of strength's damage bonus is already applied to all attacks, so Iron Grip making 100% of strength's damage bonus apply is redundant. Tasalio, Cleansing Water makes modifiers to Fire resistance apply to Cold and Lightning resistance at 50% value. If you equip an item granting "+10% to Fire and Cold resistance", you will gain 10% Fire 10% Cold 5% Lightning resistance. The modifier already applies to Cold resistance at 100% of its value, so the Tasalio ascendency doesn't further increase the cold resistance gained. |
