+1 vote for no fomo realtime mechanics in PoE. Leave that stuff to Blizzard

First day of interacting with this league mechanic and already I'm feeling external pressure to generate gold to not miss out on rewards. It's aggravating.

I realize there's a new generation of developers born into a world where fomo game mechanics were normalized.

However, dinosaurs like me who have seen the before and the after, want nothing to do with it. When we're all dead and the pre-fomo world is forgotten, you can reap your fomo world in bliss.

100% agree. It's what I was most afraid of when they announced the league and its exactly as bad as I feared.

It's the worst possible lessons from non-game games.

People like it because its a very "modern gaming" structure....which is frankly piss poor design. Folks cream for "free" rewards they get passively.

You know you can ignore the league right? Your town doesnt change after some time. Nothing stops you from leaving the game for a month and it will be exactly were you left off. Play ssf if fomo is affecting you that much.
Lol what?

FOMO because of a mechanic you dont want to interact with?

How does this not apply to many systems in the game? You can say the same thing about overcapping nikko and feeling an external pressure to go to the mines. Just as silly as a take.

Or an external pressure to go do heist because you have 100k+ markers and contracts just stacking up. Or logbooks stacking up, or blight maps stacking up, or deli maps+orbs stacking up,

Like what is this take lmfao

Mash the clean
FOMO from what? I mean by this logic you're missing out on mirror shards when you're not in the game? This game is only competitive if we choose to make it competitive. There is no race. There is no ladder.

I really hope you are hamming it up a bit. Find your zen and enjoy the ride -- it's a great league.

I wouldn't call it FOMO. It's Time Gameplay.

Just kinda clarifying that. Lost Ark lived by the in-game timer and drove me crazy. Warframe has a lot of timer based Alerts, Events, Void Relics and similar too.

Void Relic rotations is something I've apposed to using keys for specific missions whenever you want. They have improved it a bit by adding 4 rotations in total at least.

Feels a bit like gacha games gameplay.

If I had a say I would say "Ships return after x monsters killed" so it is in the players hand. Can also have big mobs count as more mobs so bosser wont miss out.

Have not set up my atlas runners yet so no idea how to balance them

I do think this might be a precursor to some type of mobile mode type engagement. The "set it and forget it" mode makes it very much a mobile friendly thing.

Re: gacha .. the term has taken on negative connotation so not sure if I'm reading too much into your statement. POE literally has loot boxes that you pay real money for. I mean .. you're right but it's nothing new in POE.

Another real possibility is player engagement. These systems are ancillary to main game mode so it may keep folks in the league longer. You farm up a bunch of stuff and reap the benefit over time. What I find most enjoyable is I now have a way to use things that would just be deleted in the past -- I can throw maps I don't want of low value into the thinger, bad rares into the other thinger, etc.

Talkative Tri has a very good day 1 impression post on youtube -- it seems to be clear that POE 1 is going to be the "blaster mode" and POE 2 is (likely) going to be much more methodical.

I suspect these "AFK" modes will continue beyond this league but we'll see.

You absolutely do not have to engage with the mechanic any more than you feel like.
This is not an integral part of the game, and just sinking a bit of gold from mapping into it is enough to do a lot of the things in Kalguur.
This is a resource management system just like anything else in the game, except you have to do investments differently.
