Necropolis crafting - Perfect for casual SSF
Hello,
I do know that PoE is balanced around trade league and me playing SSF is me putting (and accepting) a "penalty" on myself. That said, now that we have something like Necropolis, I personally really love the crafting system. Not the handling, but the opportunity for me, as a more casual SSF player, to get items I would never even had the chance to have gotten otherwise. When I call myself casual, I refer to my PoE knowledge. I spent a LOT of time playing it and basically brute forcing my progression. But I lack the knowledge on how to craft items (in the sense, the items i need with the currency I have available). I usually fall back on just Essence or Harvest spamming until I get 3 wanted affixes and then use a bench craft for a forth one. So my endgame equip I use to kill Maven, Shaper, ... consists of items with at most 4 useful affixes. When I watch crafting guides its always "First buy a fractured base". Well, I do not have the fractured base. Or it is something like "Use the Suffixes cannot be changed craft, do X, if the outcome is not wanted, bench craft Suffixes cannot be changed again and repeat". This may end up using hundreds of Divines ... I have never had so many Divines. And that is only for a single item. Or Craft of Exiles tells me to get 3 specific Fossils and then I have a 1 in 600 chance to get what I want, or 1 in 200 with 4 fossils. That's just not realistic for me. So to me it was just not obtainable. At that point I usually quit the league because I have no way of improving my character. Necropolis opens up much more options. Corpses drop in every map. So every map I have a feeling of progressing towards my goal. For meta crafts where I would need many Divines, that would not be the case, because I only see maybe 5 Divines in 200 maps (if even). Fossils almost the same. It may take me 20 runs to get one of the three Fossils I need. So after a longer dry streak it feels like a waste of time. And all that for a single item. In Necropolis most corpses are useful, at some point I have the corpses I need and can attempt to craft an item with 6 affixes I want ... SIX. For a casual in SSF, like me, that is insane. I have never had this. I love it! Or if the craft has to many different affix groups I need, I can attempt to get 1, 2 or maybe 3 fractures that are useful. And it is realistic to get the needed corpses. Harbinger Fracturing Orb farming in SSF on the other hand is absolutely not realistic. This league is the first time I got boots with T1 Movement Speed, T1 Life, T1 Magic Find (i am indifferent about this one, did not need anything else), and 3 T1 Resistances. So at least 5 affixes a needed + I do like the magic find. In build guides they are always like "I just added some basic TRASH gear with life and resistances" ... and I am like well, that's my endgame equip I used to kill Maven ... That's my ceiling. There is no realistic way for me to get better items unless GGG expands the league duration to four years. Necropolis changed that and I am loving it. Like I said, I do understand that PoE is balanced around trade. So I personally see Necropolis as a lucky accident and I am enjoying it as long as it lasts. Thank you. It keeps me motivated to keep farming because upgrades are in realistic reach. If any other casual SSF players are not using Necropolis crafting, I highly recommend giving it a try. I personally go to Craft of Exile, select the affixes I want and let Craft of Exile generate the best corpse setup. Then I remove corpses to get the number of needed corpses down. In between I check the approximately needed attempts to get the outcome. If it goes up too high because of my changes, I try something else. Once I am down to maybe 30-50 corpses and I could realistically get it in 2-6 attempts I press the "Generate a sample item" many times and check the outcome. If I feel comfortable with the results I attempt the craft in game. If not I keep changing corpses. For my boots for example, I used corpses where 30 samples gave me a wanted outcome 25 times. I personally felt OK with these odds. One thing to keep in mind, Craft of Exile currently does not use the increased effect corpses. You could use them for the rarer corpses. Like chance to craft multiple items. For the 40% increased effect, keep in mind that there is a creature type requirement, like Beast corpses have higher effect. This way fewer of the rare corpses would be needed. Especially the multiple items crafted one is good, because it gives you more attempts on the same craft. Although I have heard that for 3 or 4 items you need more than extra 100% (respectively) chance added. For 2 items, 100% should be enough. But if you use it, please check another source first to make sure. I am not certain on this. Just hearsay. One way to make it less clunky for me is to store all corpses in quad stash tabs. When I want to craft an item, I take the needed corpses out of my stash (search bar is your friend) and add them to the graveyard. This helps me have a better overview. kr Last bumped on Apr 13, 2024, 2:24:07 PM

the big flaw of necropolis crafting is the time you spend to craft one thing.
GGG should add a minimap of the graveyard : you'd just have to click into the mini map to bury a corpse where you want. |

I do agree with the handling.
To me personally, the opportunity to get items, I would otherwise (with other crafting methods in SSF) have absolutely no realistic chance of getting, outweighs the inconvenient crafting. But honestly, I do not see this going core. Or if it does at an extremely nerfed state, so much so, that it is no longer useful for casual SSF, like other crafting methods. I just like if something is just as achievable in SSF as it is in trade league. During the time span of a regular league, other crafting methods do not offer me this opportunity. Others in SSF can do it with others. But they are usually streamers who play this game as a full time job. If I run 300 maps in Necropolis I can craft a very good item or a good fractured base. With other crafting methods, I cannot. |

I wanted to post similar feedback. It is first time I am actually enjoying SSF. I would attribute it to having some aspiration to craft eg 3 T1 attribute ring, but also having 3 atlas passive trees.
