Every time I tab out to watch Youtube and eat something, then go back to the game, it crashes.
It happens after like 15-20 of being "out of game". No hurry in fixing this. Just as long as it gets fixed. :)

What kind of food are you eating.....I bet that's the problem! PoE has a strict "only prunes" rule

More info maybe? My immediate assumption would be that you play in fullscreen instead of windowed fullscreen. That can mess things up

In minimized windowed mode I get crashes every time (after a while)...The accompanying message is that of a buffer overflow or overrun, i think. This is on 3 different computers with dissimilar hardware and in both the standard and Steam clients. It started at the beginning of this league, and I haven't confirmed whether or not the latest patch fixed it.
If not, maybe the trick is to jam some prunes into our cpu cooler fans (the prune jam fix). I haven't tried that yet...I'm out of prunes. Last edited by MoonPeace#1394 on Apr 11, 2024, 1:55:43 PM

" That shouldn't matter. If a game has a fullscreen option, that setting should not be able to crash said game after a certain period of time. |

" But it does matter! Fullscreen means the game gets full exclusive control over the display. If you run a game in fullscreen mode to utilize e.g. a lower resolution than your regular system has (for better performance, bigger UI, or whatever it may be) and you alt tab out of the game, your PC now has to reset your graphics mode. This also sends a message to every other program that is listening to update itself appropriately. There's a whole lot of other things that can play into this like VRAM, threading, concurrency, GPUI resource allocations.. without knowing your hardware or your precise game settings (because you didn't provide any, which renders the whole report useless to any dev reading) , there is no way to tell what causes the game to crash for you. Needless to say, many games crash when alt tabbing out of Fullscreen mode. Tl;dr: switch to windowed fullscreen if you want to alt tab out of the game or stop alt tabbing if you don't want to stop using fullscreen mode The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

" Holy shit. I did not think about all of this, even though I'm a computer/hardware geek. lmao I'll try windowed. |

Running Full Screen does cause me to crash as well if I tab out too long.
This is a more recent development as I started running full screen because windowed would cause random occurrence of massive frame drops until I tabbed in and out of the window. The frame drops could lead to potential death mid-map so given my options I'll take the crash. 13600k, 64GB RAM, 3080 24GB on a WD black sn850x takes about 10 seconds to load anyways. Come to think of it. It could be Windows 11. "Never trust floating women." -Officer Kirac

" I had a semi-related issue to fullscreen games causing problems I didn't realize were a thing until experiencing them. I used to play Grim Dawn on full screen, then one day I alt-tab out and my computer went absolutely crazy, being stuck on a permanent black screen until I pushed the power button which then caused it to go back to normal. It takes only one scary thing like that to realize fullscreen is probably very bad unless you actually need it. PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build! MFers found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on them. I am not so foolish. |

Eh. Windowed isn't some saving grace option. It's got issues of it's own in games.
The technical is more power consumption while idle and forced V-Sync in Windows 10/11. Besides the 1-3 FPS gain and reduced latency for full screen I've had little software issues with either. It's just this game. I play Grim Dawn full screen and never had any issues. I AFK a lot in games so having my GPU/CPU calm down while I watch something is worth it.
