Automation Support not displaying interactions like other support gems

When you have any support gem in the inventory or stash, it normally displays if it works with w/e skills you're equipped with. It says it on the left side with green check marks or red X's. Automation has none

Automation is a skill gem

Any idea how it works? The description says that when it's active it triggers a supported spell... but I linked it with spells and nothing happens.
I can put Automation in my skill bar but can't 'use' it either, so I'm a bit confused. |
