Clarification Regarding 3.24 Archmage Support? Devs Please Help!
Could one of the Game Developers please clarify a quick question regarding Archmage Support in 3.24?
At what point in the calculations is the added 5% unreserved mana cost applied? We currently don't have any modifiers worded like the updated Archmage Support. Is it affected by things like gem cost multipliers? How about increased/reduced mana costs? And what about more/less mana cost? Finally, what about ring modifiers to Total Mana Cost? I've dug around the internet and there doesn't seem to be any consensus on the matter. So before we have hundreds, maybe even thousands, of angry players with pitchforks on the day of release because their builds don't work the way they thought they would... If a Dev could please answer here or reply to my email, I'd appreciate it. Like with other stats
[(base + added) * (sum of increases/reductions) * more * less] ± Total Cost Example: you have 5000 unreservaed mana and link Archmage to Arc (20 lvl), its mana cost would be 23 + 5% of 5000 = 23 (base) + 250 (added) = 273. This value is further modified by increases, mores, etc. I understand that the question was addressed to the devs and I'm not one, but what is confusing exactly? Maybe you have a look at Divine Blessing Support, it has added mana cost (but it also has reservation -> cost feature which can also confuse you I guess). |

" While this is a great point, there is one outstanding piece of text on the new Archmage support that appears to be rather unique, and I myself have been extremely unsuccessful in finding information on if a word was left out or if it actually works as written. "Supported Skills have added Mana Cost equal to 5% of Unreserved Mana" This line of text doesn't specify whether it means Unreserved Maximum Mana or Unreserved Current Mana. Considering every other instance of this being specified includes 'Maximum' in it, we should assume that the added mana cost decreases as your current mana value falls. If this isn't how it works, or if someone just forget a word in the description, that would be really really great to know. |

According to PoB this is not correct. It's a fixed 5% mana cost unnafected by multipliers from support gems and increases and reductions to mana cost.

Well, I don't know for sure if LocalFork knows more than us, but I assume they have more privilege in that matter than most players. The wording in Path of Building suggests that the patch notes were 'incomplete', as in Path of Building it says "Supported Skills have added Mana Cost equal to 5% of Unreserved MAXIMUM Mana" instead.

""Unreserved Current Mana" is a nonsense, for current mana value it doesn't matter whether some of your mana reserved or not. "It happens sometimes, usually GGG update patch notes after posting on working days. Another example of missing wording https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3496885 |

Ok, so this has been addressed by GGG and LocalIdentity and it seems Archmage functions as followss
1. Archmage cost is added to skill gem's base mana cost. 2. The sum of point 1 is multiplied/reduced by all mana multipliers/reductions from support gems. 3. The sum of point 2 is reduced (or increased) by reductions/increases to mana cost from the skill tree and ascendancy points (like Sanctuary of thought). TLDR: Mana costs will be very manageable and Archmage seems to be in a good place for this league. |
