Dialla's Malefaction v Skin of the Lords.

Running a totem build on Hierophant and almost everyone on Ninja is using Dialla's. As it is +2 the same as Skin of the Lord's but has no defense then why is it used over Lord's?

multiple reasons

1) Skin of Lords cannot be adjusted for colors, plus the random keystone is hard to get the correct one with the correct colors.

2) Dialla's doesn't just give you the +2...you get the 30% quality on every other support gem for WAY more power. Support gems mostly need quality, NOT additional levels.

3) Dialla's can be further corrupted for even MORE gem levels, potentially getting an additional +3/+4 levels with a perfect corruption.


TL/DR: the damage potential from Dialla's far exceeds SoL, possibly even 3 or 4x more damage (on the conservative side) with a perfect Dialla. The defense gained by Skin doesn't even come close to making up that difference, especially when the perfect Skin is going to be the same or MORE expensive than the Dialla with a good corruption.

you *can* adjust the colors. you just have to use the bench, and its goddamn expensive.

OK thanks for the answer, wasn't aware that quality on support gems was such a big deal. Didn't have a lot of problems getting my skin of the lords with correct colors and usable keystone. Price of +1 to socketed gems is around 65 div as of now.

It's not that quality is such a big deal, 99% of the time it really isn't that huge of a boost. But extra levels on support gems are basically meaningless by comparison (except empower/enlighten/enhance). I think the bigger thing is that dialla's can be corrupted whereas SoL comes corrupted. This is a huge difference in power. Not to mention that you can re-use the Dialla's for literally any skillset before and after corruption, whereas the SoL is almost unique to the one build you are using it for and useless for any other.

But Dialla's does not help in any way regarding defenses, that to me is a big disadvantage over SoL.
A nicely corrupted Dialla's would always be beyond my price range whilst the SoL was affordable.

SoL is certainly not a BAD choice. It's still very very good. But when you look at the top players running totems...Dialla's has a higher ceiling. You are looking at PoE Ninja, where pretty much every build you look at is ultimately focused on pushing dps to the absolute limit (and nothing else). Plus, the defense becomes negligible as totem builds and minion builds in general don't really need as much defense and instead just dodge mechanics.
