(Non-Support) Gem Linking (for Noobs)

I am a noob following this build:

https://maxroll.gg/poe/build-guides/detonate-dead-elementalist-league-starter-guide

I understand how linking works with support gems. But what does linking do for non-support gems?

E.g.

# The Levelling build links Wave of Conviction to Flammability.
# The Progression Detonate Dead Swap build links Determination to Grace to Defiance Banner to Tempest Shield.

Do such links matter? If they were not linked would it make a difference?

Thank you in advance for any help.

No, it does not matter if gems are in a linked item if they are not reliant on each other.

Basically, a skill gem needs support gems to be linked to it to benefit from those supports. An aura/banner etc does not need to be linked, but as long as there is nothing that would increase the mana reservation cost, it doesn't matter if it is in a 3 or 4 link item.

Spoiler
Thanks for this topic! I was confused too.
I like games online, sometimes I play casino games. To choose the best platform to play can be hard, so Manitoba casino online review helps me a lot. Manitoba has a thriving gambling scene, with various forms of gambling including casino games, sports betting, horse racing, online casinos, bingo, online poker, and lottery.
Some games have specific features. So thanks for sharing this thread and explanation!

Thanks, I was confused to.
