Help with Infernal Cry please

I am finding it difficult to determine in-game how successful I am in covering enemies in ash via Infernal Cry, and how strong the debuff is.

The reason for this is that by default, I use Searing Bond totems and the Arohongui ascendancy node, which has totems taunt.

From what I understand, taunts cannot override each other, so that if an enemy is taunted by a totem, it cannot be taunted by Infernal Cry (and vice versa) until the taunt duration expires. Is this true?
If so, I think it is also the case that Infernal Cry only applies a debuff on the enemy if that enemy is taunted by the IC -- right?

So if both of those things are true, I am wondering how reliably and effectively my Infernal Cry is, and whether or not I am better off using a different skill altogether (not just for damage).

(Moreover, I am surprised how little PoB suggests my damage increases from checking the mark "Is the enemy covered in ash?")

Since I lack a decent method of testing, I would be grateful for any tips.

Thanks much in advance.

So PoB is a little funky with infernal cry in that checking infernal cry will increase your damage with the assumption that its generating power based on what enemy you have selected. It will also increase your damage if you tick enemies are covered in ash which I believe is an incorrect interaction on PoBs part as covered in ash does not stack if you had some other source of it (ie polaric devastation ring).

So with a boss selected it shows the damage increase with 20 power. If you wanted to see how much the top end damage did (say a map boss surrounded by a lot of ads) you can manually enter a higher power number in the config tab of PoB.

And as far as I am aware the taunt is not required to inflict the covered in ash debuff. Its two separate parts of the skill.
Thank you.

OK, thank you, if that is correct then the skill seems good for me. I was confused by "affected" in the skill text, which I thought meant "affected" by taunt. I am glad to be mistaken, if that is indeed the case. I find it hard to test.

If you want to test it for yourself a monsters cannot be taunted map would be an easy way. If they explode and or get slowed then it works just fine.

Good idea, thanks!
