Some Skills/MTX Have HUGE Performance Impact - i.e. Black Hole MTX = FPS Killer

Hi there. Been doing some troubleshooting lately and I've found some serious performance issues with some of your MTX/skills.

I'm on DX12 1080p with mostly default settings; Bloom at 25%, Global Illumination disabled, Shadows on High, AA on High, Texture Filtering x8, Dynamic Resolution/Dynamic Culling enabled. Sound Effects disabled. Target FPS of 30.

CPU: i7-13700K, OC'd to 5.3Ghz
GPU: GTX 1080, latest driver (-> will be replaced with RTX 4080 Super soon)
RAM: 32GB DDR5-6000 CL36, XMP enabled
OS: Windows 11 Enterprise 64-bit
SSD: Samsung 980 Pro 7000 MB/s

Here are pictures of some that I tested:

This is baseline (capped 120 FPS):

This is Black Hole Frostbolt MTX (down to 39-43 FPS):

Regular Frostbolt doesn't drop me below 120 FPS.

This is Black Hole Vortex MTX (down to 96-100 FPS):

Regular Vortex doesn't drop me below 120 FPS.

This is Celestial Spark (down to 105-110 FPS):

Regular Spark doesn't drop me below 120 FPS.

This is normal Blazing Salvo (down to 100-103 FPS):

What got me to investigate further was the fact that I noticed a HUGE drop in FPS during mapping when I was moving around near my Frostbolts that were initially off-screen, then walking "with" them as they flew by me.

I want to add that this is normally a CWDT build with 12 casts per second, so I used Spell Echo + Faster Casting here to get a few more casts off. Character has basically no base Cast Speed.

I've tried literally every skill in my setup, and none of them dropped me below the capped 120 FPS in this same scenario, except for the ones shown here.

I suspected some of the other flashier MTX such as Celestial Essence Drain or Celestial Ice Nova to be additional culprits, but no. They don't drop me below 120 FPS, not even with GMP and Returning Projectiles.

It should be noted that also none of the Celestial Cat MTX that I use had these FPS drops. So, this is not an issue related to Celestial effects in particular.

I'm gonna have to ask Customer Support to refund me these. They are the main culprit of my poor FPS. I thought it was simply my build, but it's actually the MTX.

Turn down your resolution and settings, enable dynamic resolution, disable sound effects in the config file.

GTX 1070 isn't much slower than a GTX 1080. Mine isn't a Ti, and it's only a substitute since I can't run this game on my iGPU. Both cards can handle the game just fine at lower resolutions.

Your lower end CPU is the problem. You can get a better mobo + CPU on second hand market for ~$150, if that is within your budget. Ryzen 5 5600G would be a solid option for you. Especially since that CPU comes with Vega Graphics that can run a lot of games in 1080p60 and even shits all over my 13700K's iGPU. People will often sell CPUs with mobo + RAM bundles, so keep an eye out for a good deal.
