Global Masteries - How to keep current league mechanics

So I think its fair to say this is one of the most successful leagues we have had in a while. Not just with transfigured gems, which are a core permanent, but the idea of Global Masteries.
One of the questions that would eventually need to be asked however would be "how would you keep this league & its masteries?" A way that I think would be fantastic to achieve this would be connecting it directly to the Atlas, perhaps as "Atlas Ascendancies". These would be similar to how we pick a class and an ascendancy as characters, but directly tying to the atlas itself. Picking the wildwood for example would make wildwood content appear in our maps and we would be able to then select one of the 3 ascendancies as we are able to now. It would also invite future content with global masteries and encounterable content that would need to be selected in the atlas. Basically each set of content would be mutually exclusive. If you want wildwood ascendancies you would need to select the wildwood. Atlas Selectable Exclusive content with Global Masteries. I would prefer that the mechanics just be made core. I don't think any of the three wildwood masteries is actually fleshed out enough on their own to keep around at this point. Maybe if GGG adds more class-independent masteries they can do something like this to re-add all the content, but currently I'd rather they just add keystones and skill gems to the passive tree.

" According to who? Because as far as I can tell there is at least equal amounts negative to positive in the forums. I don't really find this a fair assessment at all. Look, you may very well be right about that. But we have no possible way of knowing or verifying that so how can it be fair to say? We also DON'T know that transfigured gems are "core permanent". Look at what happened with alt quality gems....those were "core permanent" for years before being removed. This is the introductory league of them, there will be HEAVY adjustments (likely nerfs) and potential full removals in later leagues. For the health and future of the game, I hope they remove 99% of the wildwood ascendancies. They are completely unnecessary and just straight up power destruction on par with some of the worst things in the past that HAVEN'T gone core. They are fun to play with now because power is always fun, but not long term. There are two things I want them to keep: 1) Stash "backpack" 2) Gained stats while gems are not socketed in some form beyond the niche uniques Everything else should go immediately in the discard pile: it was fun while it lasted. " I think Tinctures should go core as a keystone (keystone = can use one, no bonus to flask effect) and most of the added skills through ascendancy can go core as new skill gems. I also think having some kind of dedicated corpse dealer NPC would be really neat for Summoners. Detect Evil can be a notable or even a Mark Mastery pick. |

"Agreed. There are a small handful of things that could stay (eg. Barkskin and the Warlock's curses) but most of it isn't super interesting. I like the league but I don't think it would be a positive permanent addition. I definitely don't think charms should stay, they're way too generic. I'm not a big fan of tinctures for the same reason, but I'm also not a big fan of utility flasks so anything that takes up their space in the game gets at least some marks from me. |

An easy for GGG option seems to be to make the Wildwood Ascendancies as alternative ascendancies for the Scion. (Alternative, not on TOP of her already existing ascendancy.)
The main issue then becomes : how to balance the requirement of having to frequently go to the woods for the ascendancy quests during campaign, while not breaking the balance of the game with wisp empowering ? (Especially in parties with a Scion ?) (And how to deal with Oath of the Maji being ridiculously OP during the campaign ?) |

Well, PoE isn't an RPG, so gameplay > immersion, but still, if so, that's a shame...

They removed some nodes from several ascendancy's that won't be getting added back so if they don't make some of this core they have deleted a number of builds from the game otherwise.
The guardian is so bad it has un-used ascendancy nodes in almost every build that does not use link-skills, that historic for me i've never not been able to find SOME VALUE in ascendancy points for any build. The wildwood is the only reason im back and almost nothing in it is new because they stole most of it from our ascendancy's so outside of the visuals of exploring the content what exactly shouldn't go core as most of it literally was core and is now just recycled which happens but if you just keep recycling the same thing over and over that's not game development, that's modding. Also i am using a trash monster from scourge over all of the new pets because almost all of them are a waste of time, its eye candy and fan-service for meta-summoners, the one's that aren't are either too weak or their AI is so bad that they might as well be doing backflips in place. Stuff isn't getting stolen from ascendancies, ascendancies are getting appropriately nerfed, or in some situations things are being moved from them to other places because people play a specific ascendancy for a specific node and everything else gets ignored (see also wicked ward and ghost dance). As someone who played several years ago, there is not one ascendancy that is substantively less powerful now as it was then. If anything, formerly bad ascendancies are now much better. The one area where you have the tiniest bit of a point is that too many ascendancies do have too many niche picks, and Guardian is definitely the #1 problem ascendancy in that respect, and I'd throw in Saboteur as the #2. The Guardian shouldn't have a whole branch of it's Ascendancy dedicated to Minions, it's an Aura Ascendancy, it doesn't need explicit minion support. What's more, these minions are static and can't be scaled with +gem level bonuses, support gems, or anything else. They're just not at all compelling options for typical minion builds, which further pidgeonholes them into Guardian Summoner builds. All that said, this is pretty off-topic at this point. |
