Disabling effects/particles
It's been years and I think we should address some glaring performance problems with the game.
I know GGG has tried a lot. Dynamic culling, dynamic resolution and everything else. But no matter how much optimization is done there's just too much going on in the game at all times for it to be truly significant. Running in a 6 man party with skills that bounce off enemies a billion times, ground effects and other screen clutter often make my poor 1060 cry. I've dipped below 5fps in some cases. I really don't have any money to blow on an expensive GPU in the foreseeable future and quite frankly, I don't want to. This can still run anything I throw at it properly at 1080p using low settings except for PoE and that's a problem. Keep in mind there are tools that fix this already by getting rid of particle effects and such. However, they modify the game files and this is against the terms of service. I really, really don't want to use something like this just to get my account banned in search for better performance. Can we either - Have the same options in-game as what these third-party tools offer or - Make an exception to greenlight 1 specific tool so that people can use this without the risk of getting banned? It would go a long way for those without a 1200$ GPU. Thanks. Last bumped on Jan 5, 2024, 9:22:18 AM

I'm convinced that one of the main issues is that they get their meta awareness (of how ppl play the game and what it looks like) watching mostly HC streamers who are slow like Quin and Ziggy, and faster guys who have high end rigs.
If you listen to Kripp interviewing Johnathan they really don't seem to be aware of whats going on in parties for example. I don't know how they've never watched Empy do what he does and wondered how that looks on a PC that isn't a streamers "work computer" AKA a high end gaming rig of someone who gets paid to play the game. They can watch it on youtube, the entire screen flashing a blank color, mana and life globes appearing empty (like no background or anything), monsters missing their models and textures, just shadowy partyllu rendered things that may or may not show a life bar. But they are unaware. This describes every juiced Burial chamber I've been in groups, and I have a moderate spec gaming rig from 2 years ago. When I swap to other renders I exchange some of these completely broken graphical issues for some other set of graphical artifacting and rendering failures. This is also on current (early december IIRC Nvidia drivers). I also had occasion to coop with my kid some recently and using their PC (a different 1 year old medium spec PC) got all of the same issues. They think giving players a Particle slider will "worsen the look of the game for minimal benefit" this is their historical public stance on that feature request. The problem is the game looks like a complete dumpster fire in any party people running around like in Benny Hill, screens exploding in unintelligible spam... Go jump into a public party doing "juiced red maps" of any variety and even if the GPU renders it all tell me the game wouldn't look BETTER WITH LESS PARTICLES. They literally do not know what an normal every day all night long mapping party looks like. A particle slider could only make this look LESS BAD. They've apparently not so much as seen what a juiced tornado shot build looks like. You don't even need a party for this to completely obliterate the games visuals. One guy with TS in any Cowards trial GGG just go look some juiced mapping footage on up on youtube. Even the stuff without scren tearing/missing textures/failed rendering looks like the dogs breakfast. Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4. If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years. We just need an on/off dropdown menu for MTX in the options of the game and all the performance issues will be solved. Maybe also that particle density slider, if you set it to the lowest possible one then it should only show "essential" spell effects aka what the enemies do and your own spells, but nothing else.
