Where's all the currency hiding?

I'm a relatively new player, and I have a problem being extremely poor. Currently, in a level 83 and done over 100 maps, I have 5 chaos and around 100 jewellers orb and chromatic orbs. I haven't used many and I'm wearing juiced up 4-links which were dropped on me. It would be about time to get something better, but with the rate of about one chaos per 10 maps, it seems practically impossible. I'd like to know if I'm doing something wrong or has there been some changes in affiction league. I can run tier 10 rare maps and comfortably do it in tier 6.
I run throung one campaign over decade ago, and recently I leveled up one character into lvl 90 in anchetor's league. It came as a surprice for me that the league actually ended an my character was moved into standard league. That would have been OK, but it seemed that equipment prices went up about 20x, and I should have start to put up final gear. With that build, in level 83, where I'm now, I already had 3 divs, over 100 chaos and over 500 jeweller's and chromatics, which I thought wasn't much. With that build, I was just learning and dragged several levels behind because I killed a lot and searched evry corner. Now I killed Kizawa at level 63, and since then I have run maps, heists and mining, and all additional content I can access. Generally I get better equipment than before, but practically no valuable currency items. I have juiced the maps with everything I got, like fragments, scarabs, chisels and made them rare, but not helping much with powerty. Last bumped on Dec 18, 2023, 11:43:45 AM

If you are in standard, I can give you some currency for free. "secret" to making your first character is use builds which scale well without good gear, together with farming strategy choice. If you don't have resources to juice maps, run kirac missions.

On Standard ...
Prices are high (relative to Challenge) because there is so much currency there from all those old leagues. Basic inflation economics. On Challenge ... PoE assumes trading. It's not possible to get rich from currency drops. It's also the case that not all mechanics drop the same stuff, and that includes currency. Pick your content based on what you enjoy and want to accomplish. For basic currency, Expedition should be pretty good, but I don't know what's been adjusted this league and whether there is something better. If you're playing in trade and want to afford good gear, drops still won't be enough. You'll need some kind of currency-generating strategy. It's possible to play SSF, or tradeless in trade, and still have mid-tier end-game gear, but you really need to learn to craft for that, and set your atlas strategy around that plan. With either approach (trading or SSF) things will get a lot better once you can comfortably do t16 maps. I realize it's a bit of a catch-22, and that's where build selection matters. A good league starter should be able to get you there but, even then, you will likely need some crafting knowledge. You might check out some content videos for more detailed advice. Things like atlas progression and crafting should help. And vids from an SSF perspective might also be useful. Good luck! |

Guy could use passive tree optimization, not sure he can jump at expedition with that gear. At the very least, get 6L and some defenses.
edit: standard prices are indeed too big for 3 div and 100c, which is why I offered to help him with currency. Last edited by Echothesis#7320 on Dec 17, 2023, 10:03:39 AM

Yes, getting to t16 with two stones is sort of the mid-game these days and some of the focused content is hard to do if your build isn't there.
Both characters could definitely be improved and a 6L would be one piece of that. @OP ... there are a lot of ways to go about a 6L. The easiest, and not too expensive, is probably to buy a corrupted 6L with the colors you need. The cheapest (free) is to farm up a set of div cards that will give you a 6L bow or body. But that involves picking one, knowing which map it drops in, and understanding how to manipulate your atlas to maximize your drops of that map. Or you can buy the div cards if they are cheap enough... As far as more general strengthening of either build, grabbing a guide or looking at a few PoBs would help you. If you check poeninja and filter for Day 1 TR Champions, you'll find some PoBs. |

Thank's for answers and currency offers. I'm currently focusing on Affliction League. I have done all Kirac missions, and so far most currency have come from them. I managed to make 15C in 5 hours, so it's better than nothing. I play the toxic arrow champion, which should go well with cheap gear.
However, there was a nice surprice when resilent monster from another realm dropped me 6-linked bow and armor as a reward for playing with it about 10mins. That should get me forward quite a bit, while the armor is pure evasion, and not the best for my build. I guess it's not always good idea to follow build-guide, since it specifically suggested avoiding those. |

The Chaos recipe is also a pretty quick way to generate chaos orbs. It won't make you rich, but piling up those orbs will be helpful.

Where are you putting your Atlas Tree points?
Putting points into Essence and Legion will give you a ton of currency that you can sell. It won't be instant, but if you can run enough maps efficiently per day you will notice the benefits after a few days. |
