Questions about tinctures and Totems

This tincture has the HH gain rare monsters' mod modifier. If I kill mobs with totems, will the totems get the modifiers or the character? I don't seem to receive any modifiers after using a while

You have to kill by yourself with a weapon hit, then your character will get a monster modifier.

Credit for enemies killed by poison, which was inflicted by a totem, are normally attributed to the player, and on kill effects work normally with poison totems (unless the totems have too much hit damage and deal the killing blows).

But this tincture has a specific wording that states "killing blows", and it won't work unless you deal the killing blow, thus do the killing hit yourself. You can only utilize this mod with culling strike on a poison build
