Blade Vortex of the Scythe Bugs
Im really not sure how this gem is supposed to work, but here are my findings, and there is for sure at least one bug.
Skill Effect duration of 1.3s (with my current gear) 1. The first you use this skill when you enter a zone, this skill will deal damage immediately instead of waiting for the 0.6s mark to tick. Without increased skill effect duration, this means it will hit twice the first time it is used in a new area. After the first time, it seems that it will never deal damage befor the first 0.6s tick 2. You cannot gain more than one blade vortex, meaning repeated casts before the first has expired are wasted. If this is intended, which makes the skill dead on arrival, the gem should clearly state that you can have a maximum of 1 blade at a time. 3. If you have any source of reduced duration, bringing you below the 0.6s duration, this skill literally does not hit enemies except for the first time you enter the area. Thanks for your report, I'll pass this on.

Also unclear if it's intended, but it seems like even though it's a "one-shot-and-done" cast spell, it kept the behaviour of normal BV where it can't be supported by mines, traps and triggers.
This kills the biggest potential use of a skill like this. |

Had to go up to the end of act 2 to realize the gem can't have more than one blade at a time. :(
Since it wasn't specified like the others that was the major reason why I wanted to play it. The fact that it has a 160% damage effectiveness made me think it should atleast hit the on cast and another time after 0.6 seconds. Last edited by axeltt012#4323 on Dec 14, 2023, 1:05:56 AM

Replying because I too think it should at least hit twice considering the higher cast time and less duration compared to normal Blade Vortex. This is if we consider that normal Blade Vortex can have essentially 380% damage effectiveness if all 10 blades are active vs. of the Scythe's 320% (if it hits twice).
The fact that it stops hitting twice after the first time you enter an area means that it is very likely to be a bug. Either it should stack blades (like 2-3 at a meaningful skill duration investment) or it should hit twice. |

Bumping this thread because I have the same issues with the skill.
The official wiki states "It does not have a maximum limit of active blades" but in game it's impossible to generate a second blade. The maximum number of blades in game is 1, making the skill totally unusable. I would really appreciate if these issues could be fixed because I'm very interested in using the fixed skill |

I spent days PoB-ing, leveling, and farming items for a build under the assumption that I could have multiple blades by scaling duration.
Since the original gem has "Can have up to 10 active spinning blades", and the transfigured gem does not (and instead has very short duration), I thought the entire point of this gem was "scale duration". Imagine my surprise and disappointment when I finally switched from my normal BV I had been using for leveling to the transfigured version, only to realize Blade Vortex of the Scythe is... bugged? This isn't intended, right? |

"Nothing in the description indicates that. " ![]() Can have up to 10 active spinning blades - is what allows a normal version to stack multiple blades. Also without 35% increased Hit Rate for each blade and 35% more Damage for each blade stacking multiple blades is only usefull for detonation purposes (Blade Blast of Unloading), since without these stats BV would deal the same damage with 10 blade as with 1 blade. The listed damage is for first blade, the other stats are what scale it, and Blade Vortex of the Scythe doesn't have such stats. "It is bugged but in a different way. |

I don't read the spell description the way you do.
I read it and understand it according these assumptions: - Spells can generally have many copies. - Some spells can not. Such spells consistently specify that they have a limit. - The original Blade Vortex specifies that it can have 10 copies. - Blade Vortex of the Scythe does not specify any limit. The logic of my interpretation is that if a spell does not say it limits active copies, a limit is not to be expected. According to the above assumptions, the description does indicate that multiple copies should be able to exist. Either the spell is bugged (also with respect to blade count) or the description goes against the norm of explicitly specifying limits on copies. |
