Question regarding new Ephemeral Edge unique change

Attacks with the Ephemeral Edge Unique Sword now have Added Maximum Lighting Damage equal to 20% of player Maximum Energy Shield.

Does this mean that if you give a minion the Ephemeral Edge unique sword and it attacks the resulting attack will gain bonus damage based on my energy shield? Or does it mean that because the minion isn't a player it gets nothing at all?

Was this changed to be less exploitative and more interesting, or just functionally banned from minion use.
