WASD movement, input, and flasks in PoE2
Well I hope GGG reads the feedback forums haha.
WASD input is very very cool. I'm really looking forward to playing with it but it does come with a bit of a drawback in that it adds a lot more buttons to push in an already fast-paced and button intense game. I believe PoE2 has an opportunity to alleviate this a bit though. There are currently 5 flask slots in PoE2 - I assume because there were 5 flask slots in PoE. Flasks in PoE turned into something of a design disaster where primarily utility flasks are used and their uptime is as close to permanent as possible rather than situational (see Mageblood, instilling orbs, pathfinder). PoE2 has already eliminated utility flasks for this reason - but the number of flask slots is still a whopping 5. So you have 5 buttons to get 2 major flask effects and whatever side effects like stopping bleeds. This could easily be reduced to 2 flasks with (or even without) a charge allocation slider. Dropping to 2 flasks would simplify the controls, keep flasks focused on what they're actually really good design for - situational resource recovery, and have the added benefit of make flask affix choices more interesting. The control simplification is especially powerful as well because you can have WASD movement, Q and E for flasks, and R and F for an additional two quickly accessible skill bindings. It also helps make gamepad controls a lot less clunky. In summary, I think dropping to 2 flasks in PoE2 would be a really positive change and dovetail nicely with the WASD controls. This was one of my main concerns as well especially as people often use the same hand for WASD movement and flasks. You want to be able to continue moving and hit flasks and having 5 of them could complicate this a lot. Would be nice to see the number of flasks reduced to 1-2 to make sure flask piano never comes back.
