Is "Self-cast freezing pulse trickster" achievable or just a fantasy?

Hello, I know so many off-meta builds can work and I wonder can I make this build work. If yes, what would be your advices, especially for defensive layers?
I like freezing pulse animation as skill and would like to play an old school self-cast build, so any help is greatly appreciated. Last edited by cectakt#0442 on Nov 25, 2023, 5:23:25 PM Last bumped on Nov 27, 2023, 3:58:15 PM

What are you trying to accomplish with the build? Campaign? Maps? Red Maps? Pinnacles? Ubers? Simulacrum?

I did play a self cast freezing pulse assassin during the Sanctum league as a small side project on a rather small budget without any crazy min-maxing or expectations and the character performed quite well. Did managed to clear sim 30 just fine with it because you get a okay aoe clear via sniper's mark. Juiced red maps works also just fine as long as you avoid some map mods that make a evasion based build life hard but you can invest into some phys mitigation on higher budget in one or another way.
Single target damage is not that bad for pinnacle and normal map bosses, or even for stuff like the Sanctum boss fights but you kinda lack some in damage to just roll over ubers and also lack the survivability to just face tank everything. But ubers are doable on a semi high budget as long as you know how the fights work. I haven't really tested around the build much on trickster but you can likely play it just fine and even get more survivability into the build while maintaining your dmg once you hit some higher budget stuff. as is for defensive layers, you can go full evasion and spell suppression (kinda the obvious normal right side choice) with a decent amount of ES as only hp pool while you reserve your life for more auras and low life. Could probably even work pretty well with some Energy Blade/high ES. Or you could go with a hybrid of armor and evasion with life with the focus to mainly stack evasion. The little bit of armor on gear pieces helps a little bit against phys hits and feels not that bad once you invest into some phys taken as elemental dmg. Farrul's Fur works kind of well for the hybrid choice as it also offers a good synergy with Badge of the Brotherhood for charge stacking as your main damage source with a void battery early on and a well crafted +2 wep with crit and cast speed later on. Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun. Last edited by Pashid#4643 on Nov 25, 2023, 9:20:11 PM

I'm thinking on going CI, evasion and spell suppression. What else would you suggest as defensive layer?

I kinda had an idea for a White Wind + Spellblade + Freezing Pulse Trickster. The idea being that White Wind has a lot of base cold damage, Spellblade puts a 1.3 multiplier on top of it at high levels, and then Freezing Pulse has a whopping 330% added damage effectiveness for some reason. Maybe throw Ice Bite on top with maxed out Frenzy charges.
Although a pair of well-rolled wands/scepters/rune daggers on a Raider might actually be better. |

one of the key defensive layers of any ice build is chance to freeze / chill
and duration. it will cost a fair amount of raw dps but fp can be set to freezelock almost anything. spec into chance to freeze/chill/duration. bonechill adds so much freezing its worth the lowered damage. you wont be able to freezelock all t16 bosses, but you can freezelock some of them, and debilitate most others substantially. anything with a lotta hp can ignore fps freezing, but most of the time everything in front of you stops moving. |
