Frequent disconnect
|
For the past few days I have been disconnecting constantly. The loss of resources is getting annoying, please can you look into this.

If you want anyone to look into it you'll need to look at the sticky thread and follow the advice in the 'Troubleshooting the connection' section.
Posting a WinMTR log could help people give advice specific to your situation. GGG do not offer first-party Technical Support.

" It's clearly server side with so many people reporting problems in the last couple of days when they've been running perfectly before that. I used to be a network engineer, it's not rocket science to figure out they fucked something with a patch. Last edited by Corpsetastic#6189 on Nov 19, 2023, 12:34:28 PM

" "so many people", huh? Okay, so... where are they? I've looked at the first 3 pages of Technical Support and I'm not seeing any "clearly server side [sic]" connectivity issues. Looking at Path of Exile's page on Steam Charts, currently the game's CCU is typically in the low tens of thousands, occasionally dipping down to four digits. Now, Steam Charts is - y'know, looking at Steam - and so won't account for the following players;
Looking at the sheer volume of people not being reflected in the numbers reported by Steam Charts (and having some understanding of what CCU actually reflects), I would estimate Path of Exile has had just barely a six-digit number of people play recently. Not an impressive number as it goes for Path of Exile, but enough that any server-side issues would quickly generate a thread with 20+ pages of angry people complaining. Especially given the proclivity of such frustrated people to often post several times (hell, sometimes dozens of times) each. There is very clearly nothing even approaching such a thread currently active on this forum. Give me a link if I somehow missed it. I'll be generous and say there are currently a couple of dozen unique people complaining about connectivity issues - I'm not satisfied this is accurate, but I can't be bothered going through various threads and counting individual account names I see. I think it's in the right ballpark, at least. You're welcome to count the accounts yourself if you think I'm understating things. It is unlikely to be one single ISP serving domestic users - but have you conclusively ruled that out? Have you analysed users' log files to verify the issue is not a single congested IX? What about troubled backbone infrastructure? You say you used to be a Network Engineer - which I find interesting, given that I happen to be one. Where is your data? What troubleshooting have you performed yourself? With what tools? According to you, this is your area of expertise. Oh, and one final question - they "fucked something with a patch", aye? Okay then. Tell me. Are you aware the game was last updated more than two weeks ago ? Just checking... GGG do not offer first-party Technical Support.

" I don't know what forum you're looking at but from a quick glance at this forum there are over half a dozen threads with multiple people per thread complaining... Then there are the other people in my guild as well. " Oh really, did you just pull that out of your ass or do you have a stat for that? I'm guessing the former. " See my first comment. You're under by my reckoning from a very quick scan. " You say you're a network engineer and even consider that a possibility? 😂 " What a stupid comment... 🙄 " It's very unlikely to be that, which, given that you're an engineer, you should know. Backbone traffic/routing issues don't just appear like this without some major hardware failure, like a blade on a core switch dying, which would be noticed and attended to swiftly. Such failures also tend to be catastrophic rather than causing intermittent DC's client side. " Going by some of the farcical things you've said I'm struggling to believe you on that score. I was a CCNE for the record... |

Continuing because it chopped my reply off
" If you really believe they tell us all patches they deploy, front and back end, I've got a bridge I'd like to sell you. |

And I'll go you one better; I'll tell you what my twenty plus years in IT, my programming degree and my various networking qualifications add up to? Being able to tell you exactly what happened:
A couple of weeks ago they applied the update patch for these events and the code for this Shifting Stones one sat there dormant and unused until Friday evening which is when all these performance problems happened. And in a day or so they'll roll out a micro patch to sort it out. |
