mac version crushed everytime there is a update patch

Hi all,

I'm playing poe on my macbook and under the sonoma version.

Every time there is a update patch(since I downloaded this game last month), my game launcher will download the patch and it shows 38.8MB for every update. After download finished, the game crashed and re-open it will have the same process again. I have no choice but delete the game and download the whole poe (37GB) again. There are many updates recently and I already downloaded the game multiple times. Any ideas how to fix this issue?

Regards

I have the same problem. Even if I install it via Steam it won't update (Steam will download the patch and then keep the download at paused). Removing the whole game and installing it again via Steam will fix it but this is quite annoying.

Specs:
MacOS Sonoma
iMac 2020
Intel i5

Yeah my PoE in steam works fine. But I'm using the clientdownloaded from the official website(Performance is more stable than steam for some reason).
Been struggling with this one myself for awhile. Best tip I have is to move the Content.ggpk and preferences folder from Users\Library\Application Support\Path of Exile to any other offline folder (Documents, for example), that way you don't have to re-download EVERYTHING each time you "fix" the game. Note: this folder is normally hidden, so unhide with Command+Shift+. (the period/">" key).

I still haven't narrowed it down to which file is the problem, but I suspect it is the Update.dat file which also resides in this folder. I usually don't have any problems until that shows up, but when it does I have to do the whole move Content.ggpk/uninstall/reinstall/launch/exit/move Content.ggpk back/launch circus again.

Hope this helps!

Thank you very much; that sounds plausible. I tried to locate the Content.ggpk file a while ago but couldn't find it until you mentioned that it is hidden. Just to double-check, do I only need to move the Content.ggpk file and the preferences to another offline folder, and leave the "Path of Exile" folder where it is? It sounds like that the game might have problems launching without these two files. I'm still downloading the game, so I can't test it right now.
You shouldn't have to download anything besides the launcher using this method. I will outline the process below in greater detail in case anything was unclear:

1. Game crashes upon launch, typically after downloading a ~38.8 MB patch.

2. Locate the "Content.ggpk" file in Users\<Username>\Library\Application Support\Path of Exile (Note that this is in a hidden folder, unhide with Command+Shift+ . )

3. Move "Content.ggpk" to a different offline folder (to avoid iCloud nonsense). For example, Documents.

4. Delete the "Path of Exile" folder in Users\<Username>\Library\Application Support\

5. Delete the Path of Exile Application (move the application to trash).

6. Re-download the client installer from pathofexile.com

7. Run the client. Once you see "Allocating Space" or the huge download already starts, close the client prematurely. This step is important, because without it the necessary folder for the next step will not be created.

8. Navigate back to Users\<Username>\Library\Application Support\Path of Exile

9. Move the "Content.ggpk" file you preserved in Step 3 back into this folder. When it asks about duplicate files, REPLACE the old one with yours. Do not keep both, do not cancel.

10. Launch game, and now it should work.

It isn't a perfect solution to the root problem, but a handy workaround for avoiding a large download every time a new patch comes out and bricks the launcher.

The Steam installer has a problem now as well (at least on my Mac). After downloading the patch it does not install the patch but puts the download at Paused (while being at 100%). Removing the game in the Steam client doing a full download will fix it till the next patch. Propably the Steam client and POE installer both run into some kind of issue (my guess is not having elevated rights to write files).

Giving the POE-client full disk access might help the issue. From a security POV this is of course a mediocre at best solution. It worked for my Steam client. Going to try it with the GGG-installer.
This is a lifesaver for mac user.
