Explosive arrow - ignite damage scaling

Hi guys,

This is my first ignite build, so I have a few questions, because PoB does not show changes in ignite damage when changing skill gem

1. If I use Sadism support and Increase duration, will that increase my damage output?
2. I see many people are using Elemental damage with attack over Deadly ailments support, but Deadly ailments has more damage, right? and green socket is also more common on bow
3. Would it better to make instant ignite (using Sadism support and Dyadian Dawn belt) or just let the target burned? Will Combustion support work in case of instant ignite?

Thanks

Increased duration only increases ailment duration in some specific scenarios so by default it won't do anything for your ignite. It is also an increase whereas Sadism is a less so you'd get nearly no benefit from it even if it did work.

Elemental damage with attacks doesn't lower the hit portion infact it increases it whereas deadly ailments absolutely crushes the hit portion. This is relevant for how good a build feels, how well it clears garbage trash and how much leech you can get off it etc. It also can enable the use of cruelty as a support which can be a benefit depending on what your specific setup is. Awakened ele hit gives you immunity to ele reflect also which can be a good reason for min/maxed builds.

Dyadian dawn is pretty much auto use on any attack based ignite build so i'd recommend using that anyway, Sadism is a different story its about whether you want to play an ignite build that needs to constantly attack to do slightly more damage or have an actual DoT effect that lasts a good duration.

Personally I think Sadism is horrendous but maybe somebody who loves it will post in with why they think its great.

As far as I know, ignite damage is calculated base on base damage, not hit damage, so Deadly ailments should not impact the damage output

I think I should change from Sadism to Swift Affliction for even more damage then

You are misunderstanding what I'm saying, you still hit when you apply ignite and deadly ailments cuts that down completely whereas elemental damage with attacks does not.

That can be totally irrelevant to a build, but it can also be pretty important depending on which flavour of ignite you are playing.
