Latency Spikes (Seems to be going around.)
I am getting latency spikes from the usual 10ms-20ms up to 100ms or so every 20-30 seconds usually. Sometimes, it will go a minute without one, but that's rare. I haven't played in a few leagues, but I never used to have this problem on the same PC. It's not completely unplayable, but I'd like to not randomly die to a boss because of a lag spike.
Specs are: Lenovo Legion Y720 (I know it's a laptop, but I need it for school) Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz 2.80 GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 16.0 GB RAM Windows 10 MTR: |------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | WinMTR statistics | | Host - % | Sent | Recv | Best | Avrg | Wrst | Last | |------------------------------------------------|------|------|------|------|------|------| | 192.168.0.1 - 0 | 430 | 430 | 1 | 3 | 113 | 1 | | 104-202-204-2.dyn.grandenetworks.net - 0 | 430 | 430 | 2 | 5 | 114 | 3 | | 24-155-121-124.static.grandenetworks.net - 0 | 430 | 430 | 12 | 17 | 126 | 15 | | 24-155-121-238.static.grandenetworks.net - 0 | 430 | 430 | 13 | 17 | 126 | 14 | | te1-5.bbr01.eq01.dal01.networklayer.com - 0 | 430 | 430 | 12 | 16 | 127 | 14 | | ae5.cbs01.eq01.dal03.networklayer.com - 35 | 182 | 119 | 0 | 18 | 127 | 15 | | ae0.dar02.dal10.networklayer.com - 0 | 430 | 430 | 13 | 19 | 130 | 15 | | ae1.ppr01.dal10.networklayer.com - 0 | 430 | 430 | 14 | 18 | 127 | 15 | | po1.fcr02b.dal10.networklayer.com - 0 | 430 | 430 | 13 | 17 | 127 | 16 | | 2a.82.30a9.ip4.static.sl-reverse.com - 0 | 430 | 430 | 13 | 17 | 127 | 14 | |________________________________________________|______|______|______|______|______|______| I'm not sure if it's worth noting (never read one of these things before), but while running WinMTR, the 6th address failed to connect for a bit, and all of the addresses spiked about 3-4 times all at the same time up to about 100ms. Things I have tried: I have messed with every graphic and game setting that might be causing issues. I have verified the game integrity. I have reinstalled PoE. I have switched gateways. I have cleared my cache. I have flushed my DNS. I have altered my registry. I have updated all of my drivers. I have run DISM. I ran "every" AV program known to man and some that aren't. I formatted my drives and installed a fresh version of Windows, making sure to get every Windows update, install all new drivers, and a new install of PoE (again). I have summoned an Eldritch God and offered my second born. I am on WiFi, but I was on WiFi when I played before and never had any issues. I haven't hooked up with an ethernet cable yet, but I plan on doing so later and will post new results if it changes anything. I'm hoping one of you wonderful people can tell me what might be the issue, and what to try next, although there seems to be a lot of unsolved latency issues lately. Please forgive the goofiness. I have been up all night trying to fix the issue. Thanks in advance for any help. Last bumped on Sep 30, 2023, 12:55:13 PM

" Alright, let's take a look to see what the diagnostics have to say; " Here we see a ping sent to the router in your home taking 113 ms. That's the very issue you describe, and it is occurring within your home network. " I would very strongly recommend not doing that; if you have since reinstalled Windows, I wouldn't personally advise that you repeat your changes to such a sensitive part of the OS. " The issue is almost certainly being caused by interference, which your wireless traffic has no shielding against. Hopefully an Ethernet cable completely resolves the issue for you - if it doesn't, please create a new WinMTR log 1) with the Ethernet cable connected, and, 2) while the issue is present if it is intermittent. The presence of one issue can mask that of another. Inconsistency is what we'd expect of an unstable wireless network; perhaps your neighbour replaced their own wireless infrastructure or has begun using different settings on theirs, maybe something you purchased which seems unrelated is a new source of wireless interference, or it's possible you're just now playing different games which happen to be more susceptible to latency spikes and so an issue which was always there is now more apparent. “Please understand that imposing strong negative views regarding our team on to other players when you are representing our most helpful forum posters is not appropriate.” — GGG 2022

I was thinking that the ping to the router could be an issue, but I haven't noticed any changes in any of my other online games that I play. They all seem to run fine with no lag. I'm still going to check with a cable, but that will have to be a bit later.

" Different games have different methods of dealing with latency. PoE for instance has 2 methods of sync, you are probably using lockstep and that 100ms would be causing stuttering. It also has predictive sync, in which you have 2 versions of the game running, the client version and a simulation on the server based on your inputs...you are synced to the server periodically, with 100 ms you wouldn't see much of a problem, the very slight change in your characters position, the problem there though is that the core latency issue is hidden and can get worse to the point where the lag gets much higher and your character "teleports" to entirely separate areas in the map some of which you have not actually been into on your screen. Take diablo three for instance where they are using something akin to predictive sync but coupled it with developing the game in such a way that latency isn't really felt, melee skill have a much larger range, combat feels more detached, mechanics are pretty dull, skills are very limited etc Ancestral Bond. I was talking about latency issues from the beginning of the league. I know exactly which patch did it.
People are clear that it happens only in POE but you still trying to blame users. It's just sad. "This is about load order, doesn't have to do anything with loading times."

i had no issues last league but am still having massive latency issues in every map, dying constantly from lag spikes and getting disconnected at 20000ms spikes. been going on for the entire league with no end in sight

Although, I only play tested for about 3 minutes so time will tell. I also moved about 3 feet closer to the router while on Wi-Fi and it seemed to fix it as well. I wonder what could be causing the interference in that short of a range. Might have to get a Wi-Fi range extender at some point. Thanks everyone for the help. | |
Also, does anyone know why the 6th IP down is getting so much packet loss?
| |
" ICMP Deprioritization, from what i understand some hops lower the priority of non important packets and as such it ends up showing one the test as packet loss, it's a non issue though as it dose not continue past that (genuine packet loss carries forward) Ancestral Bond. " literal evidence shows that it was indeed on the players end and has been fixed by the player, stop hijacking threads...you are not helping yourselves and at the end of the day you have some idiotic notion that GGG have not spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on servers and are just letting their provider get away with giving them a sub par service....it's a service they have paid for and you'll bet your arse that they will pursue any issue with the servers.
