Steam deck is amazing for this game

I just completed a corrupted 8 mod crimson temple map with 116% quantity, full atlas harvest, full atlas expedition, alva with scarabs and compasses on a f$#%ing steam deck, deathless and without lag.

On a steam deck! What a world we live in!

Been considering getting a steam deck myself, and I am curious though.... how does playing PoE on a controller feel like? I can't imagine how the button schemes work (We have like what, 13 mappable action buttons?)

It's easier than you think. Though I could be saying that because I grew up playing on a controller. It's intuitive and after you learn the finer points you'll realize the controller makes some parts easier, especially picking up loot and opening hundreds of stacked decks.

PoE on a controller is so bad it’s a miracle they’ve got a player base on consoles. It’s unintuitive with massive amounts of modifiers, targeting is difficult, movement is imprecise at decent character speeds, and the inventory management especially is pure agony.

I only feel alright using it for ToTA and leveling.

The worst aspects of controller are inventory management and changing your movement direction to fire a different direction.

I absolutely agree but it gets considerably better when you remove targeting from the equation - playing skills not requiring targeting improves the experience 10-fold. Totem builds, for example, are massively more enjoyable relative to self-cast on a controller.

The inventory is pure crap though, a game which weaponizes inventory management and a game which is fun on controller are mutually exclusive in terms of fun.

It's great, sometimes you want some PoE but maybe on the couch relaxed on your back or snug in bed. Sure it might be a little different to play but that's the price that's paid for the portability.

There are several pro's of the Deck, aside portability.

1. You don't have to level gems (they autolevel). You can also choose to stop leveling one before it actually has to hit the point where it becomes ready to level.

2. Looting on the Deck.. ho my god didn't know looting could be that enjoyable. Until of course you get a loot explosion that's real big and you really only want a few specific items. HAHAHAHA

Best example would be showing too wide a range of influenced gear (all of it, but sometimes just t1's will be too much) that drops from a random rare or boss (conq/elder/shaper guardian) - and then maybe there's two currency items and one other thing you'd pick up...good luck! There are strategies to combat this if it happens but it can really slow things down.

You really want your loot filter to ONLY show things that you will pick up, tune it up good!


3. Portaling! Portaling out on the deck is 100000% smooooother. There could be 1,000 monsters on the screen and loot, and you'll tag your portal every time plus its SUPER FAST.

4. Identifying items is easy-peasy. Sure its not hard normally but on the Deck you don't even have to first click on a wisdom scroll in your inventory.

5. Inventory-ing is bad, but not as bad as they make it out to be.

Once you master the controls it isn't that bad. But it does take time, expect at least a week.

I prefer a proper PC setup most of the time, but as it starts getting cold again I'll probably find myself snugged up under a comfy blanket playing some PoE.

Which decks do you guys have? 64GB 256GB 512GB?
