Toxic rain dps and skill effect duration
I don't understand how increased skill effect duration mods increase toxic rain's dps. Shouldn't it just be the same dps, but for a longer duration, thus higher total damage? Can someone clarify?

Toxic Rain drops chaos dot pods on the ground as you attack with it. The pods individually have a certain duration. Your attack speed determines how quickly you can place these pods but the pod duration determines how many total you can have on the ground at once. Skill effect duration makes the pods last longer, allowing you to get to higher pod density.

The issue here maybe lies in the word "dps". Pod DPS is unchanged by skill duration. But character DPS goes up with more skill duration.
No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!

" I know, this doesn't answer my question. Allocating more increased skill effect duration passives seem to give more dps on pob, and pob shows dps for only one pod. Why is this? "buff grenades"

Because it allows you to have more active pods at once. One pod just assumes its one pod of damage per attack. If you attack 10 times before a pod can expire you will have 10 sets of damage going off. If you attack 10 times but half the pods have expired in the time it takes to attack then you only get 5 pods doing damage at once.
Think of it like increasing your poison duration. The higher your poison duration the more poisons you can inflict on an enemy before they expire, the more poison damage you can get ticking at once. |

" yes, but I'm talking about a single pod's dps. according to pob a single pod deals more dps with more duration, which doesn't make any sense to me "buff grenades"

Its basing that on your attacks per second. In custom modifiers if you put "30% reduced attack speed" you will notice your DoT dps go down significantly.
If you attack 3 times a second and pods last 1 second you have three pods doing damage. Thats what its calculating with 1 pod of damage. How many you get out per second and the longer they last the more they can stack, the more damage you do. Last edited by gladiatorpie#3317 on Sep 10, 2023, 8:00:19 PM
