This is not an airport, but i ll announce my departure anyway.

i have rage quit the game many times but i always come back.

exilecon 2019's announcement of poe2 and how it would improve poe1 was what kept me so damn invested.

i dumped a ton of money into this game as well as time.

some may argue, dude u cant expect your diablo 1 character and gear to port over to diablo 2.

TRUE.

it was never the way games worked. every pokemon you started again fresh. you could have all the legendary and shiny pokemon in one game but you play the new one you start from zero.

but POE is different.

GGG/Chris himself went on talks talking about how to design a game to be played forever. how poe2 was initially announced REASSURING us players that this is indeed our forever game. i would probably still have played without that reassurance. i would still have thrown money at ggg without that reassurance. but probably less.

with the announcement i was more invested. in a way i as a gamer was invested. if i supported GGG they would make my favourite game of all time POE1 a better game. and they would continue making it better. if the design philosophy stayed as per announcement, this would mean that if POE 3 came it would follow the same philosophy and add on top of poe 1/2.

that idea is now SHATTERED.

i bring up this "promise". because it was a big turning point.

it is akin betrayal.

there are many flaws in POE1 that have yet to be fixed and i kept soldiering on. whenever i rage quit i would return, to enrich my gear on STD for the promised POE2 to come.

POE2 would fix everything.

when i see the recent vid clip of warrior and huntress reveal, all i felt was bitterness.

where the love is the melee improvements in POE1?

when i played tota, i got to various times that i found myself discarding good gear because the gear i had, had better slots/sockets/colours.

this would have been solved with the new gem system.

later onwards i mistakenly bought a bad rolled item because i m dumb and didnt check properly. not only that, i threw in 300 jews. failed to 6s. forced 6s. then dumped fuses on to it till i got a 5L.

when i mapped to my horror i saw my attackspeed drop badly. oh well. i wasted so much resources because of a mistake. thats my bad. but then it reminded me of the new gem system. if this happened with the new gem system at the very least i would still have my gem be a 5L. its not a total waste.

so many things remind me of thing that "poe2 would fix".

i always end up in the forums bitching/whining about this game but always add a caveat, i d return for poe2.

but now, poe2 WILL NOT fix poe1.

i LOVE poe1. or at least i love what it used to be.

personally POE died the day AN went core. there was no testing. no player feedback. we were force fed AN. AN's not a "league mod" its dumped into the universal monster mods. this is different from how nemesis used to work. nemesis mods only existed on monsters that had nemesis mods enabled on them. this usually translates to regular rares. league/extra content rares were excluded, unless the map had nemesis mod applied or if the extra content rare spawned with a nemesis mod.

this helped reduce the frequency of nemesis mods. but not now. its everywhere. regular rares, extra content rares, whatever.

whatever happened to temp leagues being the testing ground before it went core?

players pushed back hard on AN but even when chris announced that AN was taken out of the game with what i would believe was a chagrin. AN mods still existed.

the latest league (tota) is to me unfun. i dont like channelling while combat is to be had. since when was poe's core gameplay involving players doing mundane tasks?

look back to a few years back. GGG introduced devices that activated by the player being nearby, before the brine king area as well as in the lab.

THIS GAMEPLAY ISSUE WAS ALREADY "FIXED" back then. tota came in and reintroduced a problem that did not exist. forcing players to NOT ENGAGE with monsters.

then we have the sanctum rework which took everything i loved about sanctum and LOVED the living hell out of it.

what direction is GGG going with poe 1? is this the way you reassure us that POE1 wont go into maintenance mode?.

anyway. i ve complained enough. the direction of the game has not been in the direction i would have preferred and the "promised solution" is no longer coming.

GGG you have a very awesome game in your hand. i wish you had stuck with your original exilecon 2019 forever game vision. if i was richer and if i had more resentment i seriously would consider suing to get all my money back past exilecon 2019. all the money before that is fair game. i gave that willingly and HAPPILY.

i wanted more of the same. you wanted something totally different. 2 games with 2 leagues?

GGG you're just too greedy now. this reminds me of my late uncle. he bought a tractor took on some projects. business was booming. he got another tractor and hired more people. then another one. and another. he did pay attention to the flow of projects. all he knew was, more tractors is more money. in the end, he overspent, buying too many tractors as projects dwindled up. he bit more than he could chew.

ive played POE for a good 10 years now. its the FUCKING BEST ARPG i've ever played despite all my harsh criticisms i have for it. chris you did a fucking good job. i commend you and GGG on that. all your success is well earned.

i've always wanted to save up and go for exilecon maybe in a few years time.

now. no longer.

there are now other arpgs in the market. funnily i find myself more hyped for grimdawns new expansion and 1.2 patch than poe2. titan quest 2 has been announced and i m honestly more hyped for tq2 than poe2 despite not knowing a single thing about tq2's systems.

tq2 might be a disappointment, it might be good. who knows. but what i do know is that all my disappointments with poe has developed into apathy. i m not rage quitting this time. to be honest. i m not even feeling disappointed anymore. its like how when my pet dog got into a bad accident, he became crippled. he needed assistance all the time. i cried. i was sad. many years later, he died. i did not cry. i felt a little melancholic. i was glad he passed. i realized that i had already mourned his passing many years back. its just a final indicator to move on.

poe is no longer fun to me.

before i end. i will add in some preemptive discussion points to some points of contention that people might want to say.

"
I dont get why you're so invested in STD. Its more fun to play in new leagues where everyone starts off fresh.

Spoiler
i see curious people ask this all the time. some in a polite and inquisitive manner while some ask it in a sarcastic and demeaning manner. to the benefit of the former, i will attempt to explain.

different people derive enjoyment from different ways. for an analogy, poe is a subway sandwich. we may be eating the same sandwich but my configuration might be different, i might prefer more vege, while the next bloke prefers none at all. another would prefer different bread, while another would prefer different meat.

regardless we all enjoy subway sandwiches.

thats the very gist of it.

to zero in even further. some people simply enjoy the game differently. personally i HATE having to play new leagues. i dont enjoy having to refarm everything all over again every single new league. i prefer permanency. different people may enjoy standard for different reasons. refarming is one issue, some players actually prefer to have access to their godlike gear. why play in a weakened state when your best gear is on STD? we just want to log in and blast monsters to oblivion. that is fun to us. also some may prefer std due to TIME CONSTRAINTS. when you're old, you no longer have tons of time to dedicate for a game. thus, playing at a slow pace only works in STD.

i do not criticize anyone who does not get why STD players enjoy STD, in fact i m happy that you guys found a game mode (temp leagues) that you guys enjoy. my only wish is that you understand that different people enjoy the game differently and not shit on others for enjoying it differently.

LOL GGG is a game COMPANY, youre not an investor, theyre free to do as they see fit.

Spoiler
As much as i hate it, this statement is completely true. i can bitch and whine but who am i?

i would just remind people on how GGG started, which was from the support of the community. we throw money at GGG because we love the game. we want more.

try and imagine this. GGG is running a free theme park. we enjoy the park enough and those of us that want to support GGG, we throw in our money willingly. its a hell lot of fun and we played alot of the games there and have a bunch of amusement park tickets which we could use to claim goodies.

one day the owner holds a press conference and tells us that theyre planning to open a new park with a slightly different theme but assure us that we can use the same tickets there as well AND the centre of the 2 parks are actually joined together which is where all the best rides are.

SOUNDS REAL GOOD BRO

i support GGG more. throw in cash. the entrance and surrounding areas of the original park are quite dated by now. the ticketing system is old and uses printed tickets. logging in requires us to bring our loyalty cards everywhere to gain perks.

its ok. when the new park is up and running, theyre replacing everything with phone apps and providing free wifi.

thus we bear with it. all these years we bear with it. theres a few other theme parks somewhere else but we're invested here. the promise of the future.

i would have stopped coming here a long time ago otherwise.

a lot of us too.

then one day GGG announces that the new theme park has rides too significantly different that they're forced to relocate the entire theme park somewhere else and that due to them relocating, the original theme park will no longer see any of the improvements. NOR will we be able to enjoy the same rides. the rides will be significantly different. on top of that. all the tickets we have can only be used in the original theme park. its not transferring over. the only thing transferring over is our loyalty member cards and certain paid passes that we purchased.

i m not a lawyer but i believe what ggg did in this situation is deception by omitting the truth. they had years to inform us but they didnt. they might have some legal standing as we are not investors and game directions can change at anytime.

GGG may have done nothing wrong legally. but it really feels like we got ripped off.

say what you want but people who gave GGG money are technically investors.

many may argue that change in direction is common in regular businesses and that we are CONSUMERS more than we are investors.

i would point out that GGG's relationship with us is different as their business model is not the same as conventional businesses.

in fact i would go out and say that free to play gaming is significantly different from any business model that exists in real life.

if you want to argue on this point, tell me ONE ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS MODEL, that provides free service FOR FREE and only gains revenue SOLELY by "DONATIONS" and NO ADS.

the only thing i can think of is onlyfans/streamer sort of content. which to be honest is also a very non conventional business model.

if you cant think of any other business models please rethink your point. we are their customers AS WELL AS their investors. GGG is NOTHING without our support.

lol bro u mad, u ragequitting, no one will miss you, you wasted your time posting this.

Spoiler
i find it sad whenever i see people with these takes. usually people who would post about them leaving a game are those that LOVE the game to bits.

i m passionate about POE.

i WANT POE to be the best it can be, but with the bias that i want it in the way that i WANT it. i always say this "more of the same".

it really saddens me further that people would have these sort of responses because the entire reason i type this LONG ASS post is because i want the game to be better for the people that SHARE my same viewpoints.

perhaps we are not many. perhaps many have already left a long time ago. who knows. i can tell you my guild in poe had so many member we actually bought slots to increase our members.

for the past 3-4 years my guild dwindled down to 3-4 members on and off in a new league.

in the past 1-2 years the number went down to 1-2.

and with this post, it will dwindle down further.

my bitching here is for 2 reasons. 1, to blow some steam. 2, so that on the off chance that GGG actually has time to read it, they might push the POE1 in a better direction. WHO WINS? POE1 enjoyers.

but yeah i know that by now our community is split. i see 3 main groups. POE 1 loyalists who want POE2 to add content to the beloved game. POE enjoyers who love POE regardless and dont mind how it is right now. and the 3rd group are just detached gamers who play whatever they like whenever they like.

the first group is definitely the most passionate. the second are more grounded in the harsh realities and know not to get to invested. the last are the least passionate. if POE fails, it just another free game that they wont play.

this post is extra long as it is extra special.

i have a lot of love towards GGG. i wish them for the very best.

i have enjoyed POE for a very long time. it has been a long ride. a fun one and had many peaks. i might return? maybe who knows. but as of writing. i feel empty. perhaps relieved even.

i m no longer overburdened.

Read the entire thing. I am sorry to see you go, but I agree, generally, and I think you make a good point with the amusement park analogy. I also feel betrayed by the unheralded "change of plans," but I still enjoy playing the game (PoE 1) enough to stick around. I still have plenty of offbeat, suboptimal builds to try, enough toys in my Standard toybox to play with.

But I'll only stick around for as long as I still enjoy PoE 1, or until GGG turns the lights off at the old theme park.

Well no. "Technically" means "strictly"/"according to the formal rules", etc.

There's no reason for anyone to give such an example, since there are no donations here. GGG sells products.
At least you used some line breaks.
See you next league.

Good luck exile!

But on the point of STD, yea, I have to agree, I really enjoy playing standard more than leagues (I still play leagues tho) just because of the stuff that is readily available in the former~
"For we are not now that strength, which in old days moved Earth and Heaven. That which we are, we are; one equal strength of heroic hearts, made weak by time and fate, but strong in will: to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield." - Ulysses, Tennyson
The fact that PoE 2 will be a separate game makes me both happy and concerned. On one hand, I'm happy because previously I was a bit concerned that PoE 2 might turn PoE into a game that I won't enjoy anymore, but now if I end up disliking PoE 2, I will always be able to return to the game that I love.

On the other hand, since initially PoE 2 was supposed to 'merge' into PoE 1 I was expecting some positive changes for the game. For one, the game actually getting the performance and optimization of a modern game where you don't need a 5k gaming PC to run delirious maps on the lowest settings.

The other issue - an alternative for campaign. Not sure it's what GGG said, but I was watching a content creator who said something among the lines - they won't give us an alternative, because they are confident in their PoE 2 campaign that will be more engaging and dynamic because each run will feel different, randomize bosses etc.

But now it turns out that PoE 2 will be a separate game. So is alternative leveling on the table again? And what about other game's issues? Are we just stuck with them 'forever' now, since PoE 2 not comming to 'save' PoE 1 anymore?
