Allocating Space takes too long

Dear developers,

on both my systems normal HDDs (no SSD) the allocating space for patches and/or first installation takes far too long. I am not sure if things are being unpacked during that stage but if it's just space allocation it should be a matter of seconds not minutes (as I experience it).

Can this be fixed or maybe the message should be clearer about what is actually happening.

Cheers,
Chail

The Allocating space is just reserving space on the hard drive to put contents into.

The reason it doesn't take "seconds" is because for initial patch, it has to allocate around 6GB worth of data.. each patch after that depends on the size. During that phase, it is also invalidating old files (I believe) and marking stuff to be freed. This requires a little extra time as well.

The allocation of space can also be slowed down by any other processes working on your hard drive at the same time that cause seek delays, etc... as well as the hardware itself (some drives are just faster than others).

Next time you have an issue with it, take a look at the download size for the patch. It's probably going to be a couple hundred meg or so at least. That amount of space isn't allocated in seconds.
