Steam client vs standalone (Linux)
CPU Ryzen 5 3600
GPU RX580 RAM 16GB OS Linux X11 No compositor Mesa 23.1.6 video driver GE Proton 8.13 CPU undervolted by 0.1v, because engine patch and hot weather makes it go up to 92°C. Undervolting seems to not affect performance. Steam client running in Steam (obviously) Standalone client also runs through Steam as non-steam game. Same Proton version and graphic settings for both clients. Triple buffering can't be turned off and something is off with lighting in both clients. I think it's backed shadows are removed or something. On standalone client performance is good (few lags in video are due to network load, not game fault, but fps is stable and load between CPU and GPU is even. On steam client GPU loaded more and CPU less than on standalone. I know Linux is not supported officially but what it could be? Is it possible to be on my end? I did check game files, game/steam/gpu caches cleanup and fresh game installation. 3.22.0b Hotfix 4 made everything worse, standalone client too, even tho standalone is still better.

Just an update.

Hi, i've posted a fix for this problem here

Iam also suspecting that there could be a problem with steam version of the game because it doesn't use the GGPK format so the patching and the engine update could have some weird bug because of the file structure/reading, iam not sure 100% of this because i have no idea if the process is the same or different also i haven't tested it myself to see but it's worth looking into and also it would help if people with problems to include if they are playing on standalone or steam.

Regarding the shadows/lighting problem on the standalone client (amd linux).
It's an old workaround still activated inside the driver for some old poe crashes. For some reason, that workaround is still activated for the standalone client (but not for the Steam client which is why they don't have that bug). You can follow the fix i've posted above. I have created an issue (with the explanation) on the driver's website (mesa). Last edited by MrVaad#4008 on Sep 13, 2023, 1:36:18 AM

" " Ohh, that's huge, thanks! Definitely will check it in 6-7 hours. Btw it's same for standalone and steam if standalone is launched thru steam to no thave shadows. By any chance, do you know why tripple buffering can't be turned off in game? Is it engine fault or something system related too? Last edited by gorioo#7514 on Sep 13, 2023, 9:54:56 AM

" Added block for Steam client to .drirc as well, coz shadows are also missing there. With .drirc shadows are back. On the side note unfortunately performance is still not fixed with latest patches, huge GPU latency and 100% load without any activity on screen. Great if that works for you !
You can lower your cpu usage by using vsync off and setting a 60fps limit. For some reason, vsync cpu usage has grown a lot in the last months. The Mesa Devs (linux amd driver) have accepted my fix, so it should end up in the driver at some point. Last edited by MrVaad#4008 on Sep 13, 2023, 2:39:04 PM

" Nice! I saw your report on gitlab btw :D " I can't play without vsync, it's jittery. Also I use 75 hz monitor and it adds even more problems, because for some stupid reason devs don't want to raise dynamic resolution fps limit. Altho it doesn't matter because it does not activate anyway even on 60 fps and lower. It's so broken last two months it's even starting to be funny. |
