Brand with Trap Support "fix"

Aug 21, 2023 11:04 PM (GMT) - We're aware of a broken behaviour involving Traps with Brands, where a single target can get more brands attached to it than intended. This will be fixed in an upcoming patch.



Isn't this the way it's supposed to work?

When Brands were released the Brand limit was per enemy, so multiple players shared the same Brand limit, effectively cutting their damage in half. Since this has been changed and seeing that traps are their own entities, this is exactly the way I expect things to work.

And it's not like this is particularily broken since:
a) you lose a support gem
b) you lose the increased damage taken from each of your Brands attached to enemies (such as from Runesmith or the Brand Loyalty Cluster Notable)
c) your Brands will be much more clunky to play with.

Does this really warrant a fix?

Responding to a developer saying "this isn't how our game is supposed to work" with "isn't this how the game is supposed to work?" is...certainly a choice.

I don't know the details of this bug, but from what you're saying it sounds like each trap was getting its own brand limit? If so, yeah that sounds plainly ridiculous?

I mean the just-off-the-tree brand limit is two. The number of traps you can have out at once is what, fifteen without any boosts at all? Even if that's as high as it goes (and given you can throw new traps, it probably isn't) it seems obviously busted. That isn't "losing" a support gem, it's using one to massively increase your single-target damage capacity, by a substantially larger factor than you'd get from any other gem.
This is likely the strongest thing ingame atm, how is losing 20% more dmg multi from support gem even argument when you are gaining what 8000% more? From this interaction.


And when you increase your duration high enough you can actually have over 100 active brands at once. Because yes, mine limit is 15 by default but after they explode and u start throwing more the brands they cast remain for the duration of the brand skill itself.

In just tabula rasa with single wand in hand this can reach over 80billion dps.
And in just 3 link it reaches the poison+ignite dps cap. Duration scales very well with poison and ignite so i consider this to be best use for this interaction. That mirror-tier gear kind of dps on 5 chaos budget.


We had many broken bosskillers, so i'm not in panic mode about this. Most leagues to instantly kill uber maven and stuff u needed just 3 divine orbs. But it gotta get nerfed at some point. I would not care if it was not nerfed too much tho.
