Increased RAM usage since engine patch

Before the latest patch, PoE used around 5GB of my RAM after I had run a couple of maps. Now, it's using around 8.5GB. Is anyone else experiencing the same behavior? If a dev reads this: is that intended behavior?

It's a problem since I'm playing on a machine which "only" has 16GB of RAM, of which 2 are used by the OS and another 4 or so by my browser. Therefore, with PoE being more memory hungry since the latest patch, my entire system starts running low on memory and slows down accordingly after just a couple of maps.

Same. Also have 16GB, either the game crashes, or my Chrome OOM.

More interesting data (GTX 1050ti & i5-6500 Skylake, 2016)

DX11 - 5.7 RAM - 86% GPU - 45% CPU
DX12 - 7.2 RAM - 74% GPU - 55% CPU
VK - 8.1 RAM - don't care about this one

Toxic joke: New low-level GPU apis were supposed to give engine devs more room for optimization, but turns out driver devs are smarter, so keep playing on DirectX11.

I am also having this issue, and it is quite annoying to have to close my browser when playing poe, since 50% of my poe gameplay is sort of in the browser anyways. I am playing on vulkan tho so perhaps i should give dx11 a try.

Yes, this is what I did too. I used to play on DX11, but switched to Vulkan after the patch because DX11 gave me an error message about a missing .dll on starting the game up. Since I'm playing on Win7, this error can't be fixed by GGG's own admission in a different thread.

But with Vulkan being that memory hungry, I tried going back to DX11 anyhow, and apart from having to click away the error message once, the game works. The base memory usage of PoE with DX11 did also go up though, to roughly 6.5GB where it used to be in 5- to 5.5GB range before the patch. But those ~2GB difference between DX11 and Vulkan help a lot on my aging potato machine.

if there is free memory, poe will probably allocate it to cache game resources in it.

if you're using your browser with alot of open tabs with only 16GB RAM, windows will tell poe that there isn't so much free ram and poe will then allocate less resulting in longer loading times for game resources, especially when you switch areas

Having this issue post patch constantly at 7GB+ which makes the game unplayable with only 8GB installed.

All renderers tried, all settings tweaked - waiting on a fresh install with native client over steam client, we'll see how that fares.

This.
No way I could ever play Hardcore with those occasional deaths to huge game lag and that on a high end PC that I use for game development. This issue got worse and worse over the seasons and I am really concerned as I start to not play anymore because of this.

hum, you should play with vulcan, game is designer on it, and its the best engine tbh, get over it.

What do you mean by "it's the best engine"? Vulkan is not an engine, it's just a graphics and computing API specification.
