PROTON VPN

Hello I am now changing from steam to standalone because of vpn issues on steam,
now I don't see any helpful threads to know if vpn is safe to use on standalone even with purchasing stuffs

So is it safe to play with and purchase while vpn is on?

what are you talking about?
every connection to teh POE site outside or inside the client runs over a SSL connection is per definition already secure against most MiM attacks or any type of sieving attack. You can also be sure that the POE endpoint is secure. The only attackable point is your own system.

There is no need for VPN at all outside some edge cases were you don't want your network provider to know taht you are connecting to the poe servers.

Using a VPN is not a bannable offense. It's literally written in guides by GGG's support team: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3072628

Using a VPN is the first step to protecting your privacy in PoE. Next, go to https://www.pathofexile.com/my-account/privacy and make sure all the boxes are ticked.

Avoid groups like TFT, because 'part of their process' is that you link your POE account to their discord and maintain the account as public. As a matter of fact, they use this to collect information and several people have complained about receiving bans after criticizing that group. If a MOD wants to see proof of this claim all the have to do is msg me and I will send them enough information to prove the point. Though, I don't think it's necessary because they see what goes on the forums and reddit on a daily basis.

Come to think of it... GGG should really consider making all profiles private and revoking API access to TFT affiliated apps like Awakened poe, TFT poe trade companion, Better trading, poe stack, poehow... etc.

You should also have different accounts for reddit, your main poe account, your alt account, your discord... etc. If you have 1 account for all there is no privacy at all and it will all be linked to a single account.

All of this information is specially useful if you own an old account.

Choose any VPN they are all very much similar these days. The really good ones that never stored any data are all gone as far as I know.

You mean the sales pitch for VPNs of improving your security and protecting you from hackers is false?! I'M SHOCKED

What's next? VPNs as honeypots?

yes it is. VPN is just a way to build a private network, actually most vpn use ssl tunnels to pipe the traffic trough, almost like.... i know, websites. unfortunatly ads for vpns try a little bit of fearmongering for years, so scrubs like you think that they protect you from hackers lol.

vpn is a method to secure high risk communication in hostile networks. Internetpages over ssl is already quite secure. the only point there using a vpn hiding your traffic from your povider and nothing else. its about as hard MiMing a website access over ssl as faking a vpn connection. both attackcases need the p1 key at least without anyone knowing. and infected dns or access to your device. good luck with that lol.

unless you are living in Mainland China (or probably Korea), why not just use the standalone client?

Or what i know is, once you add the game into your Steam library and download it, you can just switch off the VPN (sorry it does not work for China, blame the tyranny )

Only if you abuse it to fraudulently avail of regional pricing through Steam.

It's always a CGNAT problem, IPv4 is over, so ISPs are forced to put an IPv4 inside another IPv4 (Famous CGNAT).
Most ISPs give us IPv6 which solves the problem where we are right in the DMZ to connect to v6 servers without going through the bad CGNAT.
The problem gets worse when we see that the game servers still host in v4, forcing us to use our v4 connection and go through bad CGNAT...

GGG hosts on IPv4...

Will PoE 2 still in v4?
I think so, as "Technical Support" doesn't have answers from GGG and it's mostly the community helping each other.
And when you ask for information in "Help and Information" which is where GGG always responds, about an answer that ONLY GGG will get about INFORMATION asking if PoE2 will be v4 or v6, they will move your thread to "Technical Support" and there it will be forgotten like they did with mine.
