I feel like I'm wasting my time...

Playing Diablo 4. I have 3 characters at 50+ and I'm basically waiting for helltides, farming NM sigils, and World Bosses all for uniques and stats for my build. I hardly ever feel like im getting more powerful or anything new is happeneing.

I guess it's fun but it feels so shallow I often wonder if it would be better if I spent my time learning PoE. I've only played about 30 hrs and haven't even made it through all the acts but, I can tell I really like it and the thought of learning and getting involved in such a complex game intirgues me.

I really love D4 online multiplayer and open world though and wonder if PoE linear system and having to the same quests every character will vibe as much with me.

Do I choose the proven endgame and begin an epic journey with PoE or stay with D4, getting in at ground level and hoping it turns into a game with longevity and quality?

If you don't like wasting time then POE is probably not for you. The game is designed to make you waste time on menial tasks on pretty much every front. Crafting (rolling flasks, maps, items), trading (messaging 20 people hoping one responds), content access (rng gating everywhere), boss fights (Sirus floating on his throne saying "wait for me!!") you can find it everywhere.
Thanks for the info!

This month with D4 season news and ExileCon will tell which one I will stick with for sure!

If you're gonna start playing PoE I would recommend that you hold off until patch 3.22 (which should be released after ExileCon later this month). Currently the league is in stasis and there is only a fraction of the usual player base active, which could be a detriment to your overall player experience - unless..

..Unless you are playing in Standard (permanent league) or try to learn how to play in SSF (solo self-found), which are both exempt from the problem of interacting with others.

There's this guy Zizaran that is something of a community pillar. He and others like him has spent a lot of time trying to help new players. You should take a look at his "PoE University" YouTube playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMyGi7zVof8

To me PoE is the superior game, but I am heavily biased as I have more than 7000 hours played here.

OP has not finished the acts yet. I think it would make sense to get some time in before the league to learn the basics. There are a lot of things long time players take for granted as understood that a new player still has to learn and get comfortable with.

Waiting for the new league is solid advice in terms of the economy, but for just simply learning the game, the sooner the better especially if you want to get rolling in a new league.
Thanks for all the fish!

D4 multiplayer is about as good as PoE's. No in game systems for connecting or grouping with other players - so you shouldn't have a problem there.

As for doing the same quests - I guess you're referring to the Acts - how fun do you think it's going to be to have to reveal the map, chase down Lilith statues, and farm renown every season in D4?

Given the choice, I much prefer PoE's league resets over D4's slog.

Just for clarity the Lilith statues and map reveal will be static. The renown grind and dungeon completions will be seasonal, but I would equate that with unlocking the atals in PoE. In D4 the dungeons are the maps.

if you play several hours a day then poe is better for you. if you play casually then D4 is probably better
i know people who still play D4 but they only have time to play like 1-2 hours per day

Source?

I created an alt and had none of those things you mentioned. Is there something that says different about seasons?

Edit: I may have had the statues - I didnt check that, but that map was still completely obscured.

I strongly disagree.

you don't have to craft gear roll flasks or maps or trade with people.
also u don't have to boss if u don't want to do that kind of content tbh.

Butttttt every game wastes time in a sense u could learn something important i guess.
3.26 when?
Don't abandon us. don't turn your backs on the ones loving poe.

There was some confusion about the maps, but the fog of war will not be required to unlock each season. Which is different than what it is now, that you are correct alts need to unveil currently. This will change. Waypoints wont be, they will be greyed out and need to be activated. There is a forum post on it if interested that goes over a few seasonal things.

Edit: fyi the statues will be discoverable for the renown bonus, but the stats will be permanent if already unlocked previously.
