My unusual way to play poe.

I do not play PoE the same way as most people do. I don't think I've ever found anyone who does. I am used to playing role-playing games like Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, and I bring that mentality to PoE. I strictly adhere to the intended class theme when playing. For instance, when I play as a ranger, I only use bows and dexterity-based items and skills. I only scale cold damage with a cold themed spell, etc. I prefer a slower play-style and enjoy exploring areas with no on mini-maps or overlays. No rush to clear an area but I never leave anyone behind. I don't follow build guides and rarely use PoB. Though I don't engage much with guides and stuff I do watch streams in the background while playing. Shout out to Zizaran!

I play R SSF HC (Ruthless Solo Self Found HC) because I like its slower pace and the scarcity of items(sometimes I play sc trade when my college bud is online. Don't enjoy the game in this mode but like playing with him as he is learning.). This means I don't progress very far into the map system. So far, my highest tier of maps is 5 in Ruthless and 10 in regular SSF HC prior to the release of it. Playing this way makes the game so much more enjoyable than when I used to optimize all the fun out of it. I killed Shaper a couple of times on sc trade back in the day.

I play six hours a day every league for a month of the three month league time, and I absolutely love playing this way. I play Standard because I don't have enough time during a league to do much at my slow and sub-optimal pace. I also, usually create a backstory for my characters and come up with interesting names and motivations. Most importantly, I never, EVER play as myself(in any RPG.) but fully immerse myself in my character's role. I listen to the NPC's dialogue and environmental lore; and delve into the deeper lore beyond the campaign, atlas, and unique item flavor texts. I love watching lore videos from KittenCatNoodle. The game's music is awesome! Shout out to Kammil!

I am super excited for PoE2 because of the new story, lore, and improved graphics. Although I am not your usually average PoE player, I have been playing this way for over four years and have been loving every moment of it.

I started in sc trade and switched to this play-style over time giving up on optimal game-play over fun game-play(fun for me.).

Started playing the game back in harbinger in august 2017.

Anyway This is how I enjoy PoE and what is fun for me. Just felt like sharing with some of ya PoE people. :)

PoE is turning more and more into a sandbox, where it's up to each player to find his own fun. You found your fun in one corner of the game, while others find it in the opposite corner. Some players are too hung up on what other people are doing so they lose all sense of fun.

You found yours. Good for you. Enjoy it - and don't let anyone diminish that.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

Pretty much this. I dont have time for ruthless and I would not enjoy the HC Concept, but as long as you enjoy yourself, more power to you.
Haha! Thanks for the write up, KatCut. It was an interesting read. And I like the nod to our lore archivist KittenCatNoodle. :)

My grammar is pretty trash so I had to ask ChatGPT to correct my mispelling but it kept changing ruthless to ritual and putting some old ass words like releshing or adheer which I'd never used I had to modify it quite bit. The original text was quite messy to read but sounded like my raw thoughts on the matter. In the end I said fuck it I'll just post it as is.

This is the original text I sent to the AI I had to modify it's response a lot to NOT sound like an IGN article I even commented to it it sounded too formal, I asked it to make it more casual and it sounded like it was written in 2010 internet lingo.

"Correct the grammar of this post, make it more readable and such:

I do not play poe the same way I see most people onlin, heck I don't think I've ever found anyone who does. I am used to playing role playin games like morrowind, oblivion and skyrim and take that mentality to poe. I only play as the class theme is intended. When say for example I play a ranger I only use bows and dexterity based items and skills. I play slow, enjoy the areas with no mini maps or overlay. I don't follow build guides and don't use pob much. I watch streams in the background when playing. I play on r ssf hc because I like the slower pace and the scarecity o items. I try to keep to the intended theme and architype of my character. This means I don't really get very far in to the map system. I have only reached t5 in ruthless this far but yellow maps in regular ssf hc before ruthless was released. I enjoy the game a lot more this way than how I learned to play by hyperoptinizing the fun out of the game.I play for 6 hours a day and love it. I play in standard cause I dont have enough time in a league to acomplish much at my slow and suboptimal pace. I usually write a backstory for my characters and try to come up with interesting names and most important I never EVER play as my self but as my character. I listen to npcs and reflect on the game lore, I note down what I find out about the deeper parts of the lore beyond the campaign and the atlas and the unique items description. I'm mostly exited for poe2 because of the new story and lore and for the graphics. I am not a regular poe player at all. I've been playing like this for over 4 years and loving it."

These tools are awesome for people like me who speak english as a second language, I use it all the time to make my email sound more professional. Just make sure u correct it's mistakes.
Sounds like you'd enjoy 7 Days to Die. Scarcity of basic resources early in the game sees you starting your first NPC-driven encounter hungry, cold, thirsty, and perhaps concussed and/or infected with dysentery or zombie fever.

Sometimes, you get lucky and find a leggy potato in a bag of trash. Or a sad remnant of coffee in an abandoned office kitchenette. Sometimes.

Nice read!

My playstyle seems the perfect opposite. I spam stuff in softcore trade, mostly watching the overlay as I rush through a ton of whatever effects and when I die I dump my inv and just rush back. Likely all gear bought. First I PoB, then I play. At least multiple videos from 10+ streamers for builds before league start.

The build will be good for a specific thing for currency only, not fun (a.i. the fun to me is that it works well). The second build is still for currency, but broader. Third build and on is just for fun using some chase uniques, strutting around like a noob in the largest mass of the PoE playerbase.

Did you try turning it off and on again?

That sounds like a more hardcore version of myself.
I don't limit myself to "intended" items for a class. I've played a bow witch, a Magerauder, a wanded assassin, a bowelist and so on.
Good for you to have found a way of playing that you like. When I play alone (not so often these days), I also prefer Ruthless SSF, because I really don't like endgame (what people call the real endgame) that much. Progressing in the Atlas is fine, but Eater, Exarch etc. ... not so much.

Hope you keep enjoying the game!

Have fun.
