Elemental Resistance
|
Greetings Exiles! I have off and on since PoE's launch on Playstation been trying, somewhat in vain. To get my 1st character, Solthael which I began in Synthesis to level 100. Its a loooooong term goal that has had many ups and downs. But of late, I have gotten him to a state I'm happy with. Roughly 1.4m dmg, 7k health with a Cyclone-Voidforge setup as Inquisitor. I know, I know, It's sub-optimal. I've never been one for the whole "Meta" thing. But, I am one that loves to Optimize as much as I can.
It's been a while since I last played, and after re-speccing my tree I find alot has been shuffed about..and many nice new Nodes that attract my very limited points. Now, with my current setup I have a deficit in Chaos Resist, but with the right rolls on gear I could figure that one out no prob, its a WIP. What Im having trouble figuring out though is a good place to have my Elemental resistances. I currently have them capped, and overcapped to 127%. It seems like that is too high. I know, with enemy elemental pen and curses etc It can ensure I still remain capped. But is 127% too much or not enough? Here is my current build, note I'm in standard. I understand most ppl dont see the point in the base league, but I'm rather fond of it. https://pastebin.com/xicgJZCC Finally, thank you for taking the time to read my post. I'd also like to thank anyone in advance for advice going forward. Be safe out there exiles, and I wish you all the best of fortune in your current League! :D Last edited by Cloud-Zanza#9767 on May 30, 2023, 5:39:08 AM Last bumped on May 31, 2023, 10:53:02 PM

Overcapping your resistances only works against things that lower them like elemental weakness/other curses, some altar mods and scorch. It doesn't help against penetration which has become fairly common with lots of altars providing it which wasn't the case back in the day.
There is no right answer to how much to overcap. You can combat curses with reduced curse effect as well to negate those. Altars are a thing of your choice and scorch only shows up during simulacrums as far as i know. If all you wanna do is mapping then you should stack enough to combat the curses in conjunction with whatever curse effect reduction you have and just avoid the altar mods in question. I don't have POB access right now so i can't check. Generally i think it's more important for survivability nowadays to have a way to deal with penetration and have high mitigations. No matter how much you overcap, if all you have going for elemental damage is res capped at 75 then you you'll have a hard time making 100 in maps. You need other layers on top. Elemental damage reduction, armor applied to resistances, spell suppression, whatever you can get. Those also help against penetration. Another anti penetration measure aside from those is damage taken as another element like from divine flesh. Last edited by Baharoth15#0429 on May 30, 2023, 5:53:07 AM

" I will look into those then. Maps with alot of modifiers, T14s and Higher are hit and miss. Not such a prob when I eschew mods like extra projectiles, or reflect elemental dmg (duh on that one though). Where would be good sources for some of these extra layers of Defense? I dont rly care about the Uber bosses or ahything but I would like to work toward beating the Elder and Shaper again. Possibly the Mavenn. |

As a 2 handed inquisitor the easiest option for more mitigation in general would probably be max res. There are 2 clusters with + maximum elemental resistances between the marauder and the duelist starting area. You can also get more from armor and aura mastery clusters if you fullfill the conditions, i'd start with that. You should also get yourself a modern version of brass dome, the armor was buffed significantly and can have up to +5 max res now.
As far as penetration is concerned, given your build there is only lethal pride with tempered by war to take cold/lightning damage as fire or glorious vanity with divine flesh to take elemental as chaos. The former requires a lot of overstacked cold/lightning res and has no + maximum res included. Divine flesh provides both but will likely require some small cluster jewels to get extra + max chaos res and to cap chaos res. Last edited by Baharoth15#0429 on May 30, 2023, 6:58:04 AM

You should go for a +5 max res Brass Dome, and get some more max res on the tree, as Baharoth said.
You should get a 6-linked Voidforge. If you are looking for some insipration for further upgrades, there are some people who played Voidforge Inquisitor last league https://poe.ninja/sanctum/builds?class=Inquisitor&item=Voidforge. |
