Chancing a unique item
Hi everyone, I just wanted to ask whether it is possible to make an imprint of a magic item before trying to chance a specific unique and then use that imprint in case I get a unique I don't want?

Err... I'm somewhat irritated. Are there uniques around with that rare base types that it's worth to imprint them before chancing?

" The unique I'm trying to get is not rare or expensive at all but the crucible tree on the magic item I'm trying to chance is. That's the reason why I would prefer imprinting the non-unique item in order to save my progress with the crucible tree, instead of making new crucible trees from scratch and then trying to chance that item into the correct unique. |

allright, got ya. a very good crucible tree is a very good reason for the road you're planning to go.
While I don't like playing lotto, the following route should work: - imprint the item - split it - chance on one half until you get an unique - if it's the wrong one, use your imprint on the other half and start again another possible route that sould work is "simply" chancing until unique and then continue with ancient orbs until you get the right one. From my experience, I cant restore an imprint after I split an item but I can make imprints of the two items after I split them as both of them will keep the crucible tree. So I can just duplicate the items with the perfect tree before I start chancing for free. If I do get a unique that I don't want, using an ancient orb will delete the crucible tree I'm pretty sure so I don't want to do that. These two things are precisely why I was wondering whether specifically using an imprint on a split item or not, doesn't matter, can restore it after it chances into the wrong unique. I wish I could use ancient orbs as that would make the process fairly easy but I feel GGG predicted this and made it so that ancient orbs delete the crucible tree from an item.

" Allright, seems like you're more familiar with beast crafting than me. ;) Out of curiostity: do you know that ancient orbs delete the crucible tree or do you just assume this? I mean with 35 challenges done, 1 ancient orb and 1 random unique weapon with unlocked crucible tree shouldn't be a big investment. Especially since it would make your life most likely easier if your assumption proofs wrong. FOR SCIENCE! :D You say Prison Cell, I hear 'Holiday'.

The ancient orb thing I read about on reddit and it makes sense to me as that would make it trivial to create crucible trees on unique items as the only thing you care about in that case is chancing any unique item of a specific base.
As for trying it out, I have enough currency to burn some on experimenting but I value the time spent creating the crucible tree much more so that's the reason why I really don't want to try things I'm unfamiliar with at this point. I asked the same question on reddit in the meantime and someone pointed out that imprints work like eternal orbs which is stated on the wiki as well and that would mean that I can imprint a magic item and revert back to it in case I chance the wrong unique. |

My idea about giving the ancient orb a try was using a random 1c unique with unlocked tree for the experiment. Your current base item with the crucible tree you've build is most likely far to worthy to risk it with unnecessary experiments.

I tried it out on a random unique I bought for 1 chaos orb and it deleted the tree but I also tried hitting the unique with the chance and I hit the wrong one 2 times and I managed to use the imprint to restore the item back to the magic one. So I guess now it's only a matter of time and the amount of chance/scours till I hit the unique I want.
