Crash on loading after selecting character

I'm launching the game via steam (proton on linux). I can login and select my character, but the resulting loading screen causes a crash. This happened after the latest patch (roughly 16 hours ago).

Update: looks like I can make a new character and the twilight strand loads fine. Could it be my mtx? Loading Oriath docks (that's where my current character loads into)?
I'm experiencing the same issues, using Proton Experimental or Proton 8.0-1.
Changing instance silent crashes the game. It works to select character and load into town and run around.

Using Proton 5.13-6 the game is playable, but it is running with lower performance compared to newer proton versions.
I'm also having similar issues. I'm on Manjaro. I was crashing in loading screen consistently until I was testing other proton versions, for whatever reason I can now get into game but I silently crash randomly now.

Putting 'PROTON_LOG=1 %command%' in the launch options might shed some light on the issue. It'll output a log file to your home directory called steam-238960.log.

I had the game lock up on me in a loading screen in delve and the last line of the log was:
"
2883.967:012c:0158:err:sync:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 00000000009400D0 "../src-wine/dlls/ntdll/heap.c: main process heap section" wait timed out in thread 0158, blocked by 01a0, retrying (60 sec)
So, I've had about 4 more game lock ups and it's this same error every time.
Oh nice, I'm not the only one. I crash when I enter a map most of the time. And when I finally managed to enter a map(after disabling/enabling multithreading, but that might just be random) I crashed after like 3 packs of mobs.

DX12 or Vulkan seems to make no difference for whether these crashes occur. I know Linux is not officially supported or anything but I'd still really appreciate a fix(or at least some info on what was changed last patch that could cause this?). Or is it some update on Steam's side?

EDIT: forcing Steam to use Proton 7.0.6 seems to fix the issue for now, so I recommend that for anyone coming across this thread

Switching to proton 7.0-6 seems to stop the crashes/freezes for me too.
I had the same issue, but switching to Proton version 7.0 fixed it for me and it seems to be running properly now
same here, crashes on native. proton 7 fixed it. proton 8 hangs infinitely.
Same issue. Worked fine couple of days ago, now game crashes.
Switching to 7.0-6 makes the game start, but it still freezes/crashes for me after 1-2 minutes or when switching maps, it's impossible to play.
Proton log shows this exception:

EDIT: my issue was that I was changing proton version in steam settings, but I had to do it by right clicking on PoE -> Properties -> Compatibility -> and force it to use Proton 7.0-6 there (in case anyone else has this issue).
