Spells and abilities to cast dynamic lights and shadows, a possibility?
POE has gone a long way since alpha in terms of spell effects and graphics, although spells casting noticeable lights in the environment is, I think, completely missed by the art department. There are some pretty great dark dungeons and the engine has some nice dynamic shadows in play, could those be put to use on spells and abilities as well? As an option of course.
Here is a simple mock-up of what a simple ambient lighting to a fireball could do to enhance the feeling of an explosion like the fireball's. Having it cast shadows would be even better (as an option in the graphics settings of course). ![]() Anyone else feel like there should be more lighting effects than what we currently have? If I'd ever got a chance to make a game, it would definitively not cater to the players that want the game to change instead of themselves improving in it.

Moved to appropriate board -- let Russell have a chew of it. :)
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

Yeah if we could get the option for spell effect lights that would be awesome. Problem is there isnt one so if I go add lights to all the skills then peoples slower pcs will have a problem. Yes we need another graphics programmer : <

" (meant to be light hearted sarcasm) once again we get to this whole, OPTIONS thing.... how many times does it have to be repeated... you dont HAVE to force settings on people, you CAN offer option! Or is that just to damn logical? (sorry for the sarcasm but it drives me fkin insane, reminds me of netflix - how many times they change simple minor shit and piss off EVERYONE yet could have made it a simple option to use either form of UI or interaction, yet they throw away the old and fk the people who dont like the new... well this is no different, your saying you cant do it cause people with slower computers will have problems? well you have settings that casue slower comps to have problems already, whats the difference? i have a computer that could handle prob anything you could throw at it, id like to have as much graphical OPTIONS (being client side, not hurting sync ect) as i can possibly turn on! :P |

+1 to adding dynamic lights, even as a micro-transaction. If it causes problems when it occurs in bulk then make it so the owner of the effect is the only one that sees the effect and it is limited to being applied to their own skills/abilities/minions.
What I mean is that if I apply a Dynamic Light effect to Fireball then only my own Fireballs will generate the dynamic lighting, not my allies Fireball's (if I'm in a party). I will also be the only one to see the dynamic lighting applied to my spells. One could argue this makes the effect Pay to Win though :/ Since it lights up the area.
