Momentum Support Gem.

Maybe one of the most pointless gem changes I've seen in POE.

The video on it has more people in the comments utterly confused as to what the gem is for and what it is doing. If Onslaught was so broken early game gem why not up its level to 22/24 or 32?

It would be a nice gem to pick up for utility in act 3. Since you have lowered gem levels to put them into the early game why can't gems be raised if they are to op for the early game?

1. The gem seems to grant additional speed at 0 momentum
2. This stacks with onslaught so is a buff to anyone who gets onslaught from anther source.
3. At level 20 it feels like I am swinging faster than I was with onslaught using a fast swinging build. However I now need to keep it on my primary attack skill and not just my secondary.

The jury is still out on how much I like the change but I don't hate it as some do. With tweaking of items, I might think it is solid.
My issue is at low gem levels it is good for getting movement. You swing twice and gain speed.

At high levels it takes 4 or 5 hits or so it takes longer to move faster, then if you are using it for attack speed the momentum is consumed.

Momentum Shouldn't be consumed until you move imo.

I can't imagine what a build with 8 aps feels like.

I have a melee Frenzy/Bladestorm build on standard and Momentum is feeling really good at 20/20. With only 1 frenzy charge (out of 11) and no Momentum yet, he swings over 12 times per second, so maybe the support is specifically for fast hitters.

Finally a change that doesn't force me to redesign my build. Really enjoying it, thanks!!!
At level one it's an Avg of 22.5% Atk Speed. At 20 it's Avg 50%.

Compare this to Faster Attacks Support at 54% Q20. For DPS it's worse and no one really uses Faster Attacks for DPS anyways. Some builds will make decent use of the movement.

Spell/Projectile puke, CoC, CWDT, etc. Anything else likely won't.
Certainly not melee who arguably need it most for engage / disengage.

A second faster attack w/ a movement speed kicker makes it good for any build that already uses faster attack. Onslaught only gave a 20 speed increase.

I used both. It is costing me one of my damage gem slots in my primary attack set up but I am loving the feel of Momentum. That being said, I know my build is not even slightly close to meta.
In this game you can't stand still in one place and attack 3-5 times without moving. You just can't or you die.

My build attacks over 20 times per second with his primary attack and over 10 times with his secondary attack. It is a little different for fast attacking builds I guess.
the original onslaught was used as a leveling gem

the concept was clear a pack and run.

the new momentum gem has the same spirit but i would say performs BETTER than the old onslaught gem.

previously you NEED to clear packs in order to keep onslaught up.

now? tickle the enemy twice is enough for some benefit. you dont even need to kill.

also its MORE RELIABLE than onslaught support. when bossing, you have 10% chance? of triggering onslaught. having movespeed boost via momentum EARLY GAME feels really good.

its so much more easy to avoid boss hits with momentum.

however if you're going to "end game tier"

momentum loses its... momentum. lol.

it was not meant to be an end game gem. most players dont use momentum support, there's so many different ways to obtain and maintain onslaught. we have passives or even items that grant onslaught on kill. flasks that give onslaught.

even with the concept of "momentum is used for leveling" mindset, it still can have it's uses if you use it on a secondary attack or if you have so much clearspeed and want to push your movespeed a little more.
