Reduce game size
Hello!
Game takes 30GB space which is a lot. Can game size will be reduced to 3GB? It also reduce download time, reduce memory requirement, reduce fps drops / lags due to a lot of mobs. It can be done by reducing texutres size from HD quality to LOW quality (by 4 - 16 times) also reducing poligon numbers of 3d models. That can be done manually, but game probably will check CRC of files and redownload it from GGG servers. Can you please make LOW resolution game / client download? EDIT: here a few (two) tools which can do that job, one called "Path-of-Exile-modding-tool" but it I failed to configure it. Not sure if are trolling or not :)
As I heard, for years GGG had refused to provide options to reduce/remove visual effect clutter from the game: make them transparent via some menu slider, remove specific parts of overloaded visual effects, like MTX ones. All because from their perspective, game would have looked "bad" on screenshots/streams. Are you seriously suggesting them to reduce texture resolution by 16 times and rebuild all 3D models in the game (manually)? |

I'm serious. You probably never played this game on low spec hardware and never struggle 1-2FPS deaths. Reducing memory footprint of the game will make this game playable on such hardware.
Playing low spec hardware it is not just struggling with fps shuttering. It also gives you 100% time of Dynamic Resolution effect, which even WORSE then low textures. Basically you CAN'T read (tell the difference) between icon on Expedition missions or you have to ignore Sirus room (FPS and lags are terrible, you CAN'T dodge hits). This game UNPLAYABLE on low hardware. I can play Doom Ethernal but I can't play POE. How bad this game is optimized? Of course, you do not have to manually reduce it's size, you can run the script. And give us option to download 3GB game client. Last edited by belop#0085 on Feb 16, 2023, 9:20:53 AM

Sorry, but that will never happen.
Even if , reducing the size of the game will have no impact on fps. Texture size impact on fps is nearly zero. Games runs acceptable on nearly 10 year old hardware , like nvidia 980 (10 bucks on amazon). It would probably help you if ggg would implement a option to disable the visual effect clutter . But so far i know ggg refuse to do so. |

POE requires 11GB of RAM + disk cache for loading HUGE textures about 5-10GB for smooth playing. This game need 32GB. This is not ok.
Try to play this game with 8GB memory to feel it. Even 16 GB not enough and I have a lot of 0 FPS lags (stuttering) even on machines with 16GB. This is clearly texture size issue. Game size of 3GB would never have such issues. It would run / check faster and reduce download size / time. |

" The machine I'm playing it on is nothing short of ancient, i5 750, 8gb ram and R9 270X. Sure, it isn't a terribly pretty game but it would be kinda unrealistic of me to expect it to work much better on something that old, there are plenty of games nowadays that this thing can't run at all. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

" With a modern video card , 8 Gb ram, the size of the textures have no impact on fps (at least in POE and for me). If you have a old video card with less than 4 GB ram + a old hdd. Yes, then the fps can sometimes drop , even to zero. But that is only if the ram of the video card is full. Not the RAM on your PC. For me POE runs fine with 8 GB Ram und 8 GB Video card. 1080p, not max settings, + SSD. If you want more insight , google has a lot of articles related to texture size and performance impact. And all i found say it have no impact. |

My hardware quite new. It is notebook (netbook). With linux as main OS. But I got quite bad POE experience, with a lot of FPS drops:

Your "bad" gpu is the reason. Almost like your laptop is not meant for gaming lol.
And no, you can't just get the game 10 times smaller by simply downsizing textures. Besides that not everyone is into ugly 2004 WoW graphic in 2023. Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun. Last edited by Pashid#4643 on Feb 17, 2023, 12:53:52 PM
