question about ignite damage calculation

hi everyone,

i just wanted to check which jewels would be best for my arc-ignite champion build using pob. so i tried out jewels with increased spell damage, increased lightning damage, increased fire damage etc.
the thing i dont understand is, the poe-wiki says ignite damage is based on a hits base-damage before increases and more-modifiers. yet according to pob calculation a jewel with increased lightning damage gives me higher ignite dps, increased fire damage also does increase my ignite dps by about the same amount. but increased spell damage (while holding a shield and i am holding a shield) does not give me any higher ignite dps.

so basically my questions are:
why does increased lightning damage even increase the ignite dps (is the wiki saying ignite-dmg is based on a hits base-dmg BEFORE increases wrong on this?)
and why doesnt increased spell damage do the same thing?
or may it be that pob isnt calculating the ignite correctly?

Ignite is based on the hit's base damage, meaning that it isn't affected by things that would only boost the hit.

Ignite is an ailment, not a spell, and thus is not affected by increased spell damage.

I assume you're using something with "Lightning Damage can Ignite". While the final damage type will be fire and be affected by modifiers to fire damage, the base damage is still lightning and affected by modifiers to lightning damage.

i am using stormfire (lightning damage can ignite) and arc as main skill.

what i still dont quite understand is:
arc (spell, lightning) is doing the hit, that leads to the ignite, right?
so the ignite is calculated based on the damage done by an arc-hit.
so in what way is it a difference if im increasing my spell damage or my lightning damage? wouldnt both of these stats just increase the damage of the arc hit? and wouldnt (if the wiki is correct) this make no difference for the actual ignite damage, beause its calculated on the base damage before increases?

Arc is doing the spell hit inflicting lightning damage, that is causing an ignite based on lightning damage.

Spell damage only applies to the spell hit. Spell damage does not usually apply to damage over time. Some exceptions exist, with skills like Fire Trap or Essence Drain, which cause damage over time effects and include the line "Modifiers to Spell Damage apply to this Skill's Damage Over Time effect"--but this effect only extends to the innate effect of the skill, and not to other damage over time effects it could cause, such as ignite.

Lightning damage applies to lightning damage in general. It applies to the hit's lightning damage, and separately applies to the base lightning damage that is causing the ignite. The base damage causing ignite is still scaled by appropriate modifiers, and increased lightning damage would scale it in this case.

The base damage for the ignite is no longer considered "attack damage" or "spell damage", nor would it be "area damage" or "projectile damage" for a skill like Fireball. Those kinds of modifiers would only apply to the hit.

I think you can safely treat it as though the ignite "converts all damage that can ignite to fire damage".
