Question on suffixes cannot be changed + veiled chaos orb

I can't find a guide that goes deep to some details like this but here are some questions I got when crafting with SCBC + veiled chaos.

First, just want to make sure the procedure goes like:
1. Ready the item, all suffixes confirmed.
2. Has open prefix slot and craft SCBC.
3. Veiled chaos orb.
4. Benchcraft to block.
5. Unveil.

Anything missed out or is there a better way? One whole run costs like more than a div without turning back which happens within a few clicks and yet it still isn't a process with definite results and you still have to gamble. That doesn't feel right.

Second, if finally the item gives 3 prefixes that turn out to be completely useless, does it mean I have to yolo annul hoping one of the prefixes, not the suffixes to be removed? I was recommended of eldritch annulment which I thought quite good at first, only to realize later that I'm actually crafting a ring..

Side note: "I have grudge!" (like Tullina) that I'm unable to enjoy the good old crafting like cheap metacrafts (ex'es not div's) or harvest crafts (reforge prefixes keep suffixes) before 3.19 when I joined the game. The more I play and know more about how the game used to be, the more I feel the game is becoming noob-unfriendly.

Looks like the 'normal' procedure to me. Whether this is best depends though.

There is a safer way: Use Aisling T4 instead of Veiled Chaos. Needs at least one extra free prefix slot (can make with metacraft and annul/scour) and you may have to add some Exalts too. But you wont run into the 'get 3 prefixes and risk suffixes' situation.

And then there are also Harvest crafts which can be used instead of xyz (with meta block).

Thanks for the reply. I don't quite get this part. I've never used T4 Aisling before but the line reads like

"Remove a random modifier from a rare item to add a veiled modifier to an item (item must have no veiled or unveiled modifiers)."

Do you mean the free prefix slot is intended for metacrafting (SCBC) so that T4 Aisling has better chance keeping both SCBC and all suffixes (better than veiled chaos which always removes SCBC)? Since from my understanding whether or not you have a free prefix slot doesn't have any influence on the effect of T4 Aisling.

And where do the exalts come in this circumstance?

Also, I assume all this has to be done before the ring becomes 6-affix'ed. If it's already 6-affix'ed nothing much can be done other than yolo annul?

If you have 2 prefixes and 3 suffixes and craft SCBC then T4 Aisling can hit the SCBC and you will be in the same situation (3 prefixes, need to yolo annul if bad) that you wanted to avoid. So you must have 1 free prefix before using T4 Aisling.

To get an extra prefix. Not sure in which situation this is advantageous but there probably are some. Example: You have no prefixes and craft "suffixes cant be changed". Then you can do T4 Aisling. Or you can use an Exalt and then do T4 Aisling. If you do Exalt before there is a 50% chance T4 Aisling will not remove the "suffixes cant be changed". This can maybe make the crafting cheaper. There are probably other use cases. Probably depends on what you want to get.

Far as I know there is no safe way. You can still use T4 Aisling though. But it can hit a suffix then.

Its not a valid term. I just wanted to express that instead of one of the other things (like using an Exalt or Veiled Chaos or whatever) Harvest crafts can sometimes also be used.

In your original setup, make sure you have full suffixes (all 3). If you don't and you veiled chaos, it can add a junk suffix. Prefixes/Suffixes Cannot Be Changes will only protect the corresponding affixes you already have. They do not prevent new ones from being added.

And yes, the process is expensive but not deterministic. That's why good items have value. If you could deterministically make things in one go, things wouldn't be worth near as much. Good items aren't meant to be trivial to hit.
