GPU Overheating

EDIT: for anyone looking at this in the future, I turned off Global Illumination and that seems to have done the trick.

I am running with an NVidia GeForce RTX 3080. I've been using this setup since June without issue. Problem started today.

All of a sudden, my screens go blank and the fans kick into high gear. Thought it might have been a one time glitch so I rebooted and started again. After about a few minutes, the shut down happened again.

Troubleshooting:

Dusted the GPU
Updated graphics driver and BIOS
Switched from Vulcan to DX 12 (Beta)
Followed the General Troubleshooting Guide

I monitored the GPU temp. It idles at about 45-50 C. While playing it doesn't really ever get above 70 C. Then the shutdown happens again, so it's not a gradual build up of heat. More like a sudden spike.

After shutting down, the GPU is incredibly hot to the touch.

I am not able to replicate the issue with any other game.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

This was my issue two weeks ago. After running the General Troubleshooting Guide, the problem has seen to go away, but it just came back again. I had changed nothing else in the settings or made any changes to my graphics card drivers, etc.

The GPU being very hot could just be caused by the shutdown. Your card was around 70°C with fans running. When you shutdown, the fans are stopped and there's still a lot of heat to dissipate.

Most of the time, sudden shutdowns are power related, for example :
- the psu cables to the gpu (check them).
- the gpu asking for more power than the psu can give (do you have vsync or a fps cap enabled ?)

the computer doesn't actually shut down, the screen goes blank and the fans rev up to dissipate the heat. i manually power down the computer to prevent any kind of damage.

psu cables are fine. like i mentioned this problem doesn't happen with other games and it was fine for months when i first got this setup and after i ran the troubleshooting guide the problem was fixed for two weeks.

vsync is enabled
I havent been able to play this game in 4k for a year now. I play at 1080p and my card still gets warm.

I can play others games no prob at 4k.

Game is very poorly optimized.
