Flame Surge with multiple burning damage sources on target
Tooltip wording of the effect in question is:
" From what I gather, Flame Surge's burning ground works with any burning damage, not just "Ignited". However I was unable to find clarification on what would happen when stacking for example, Righteous Fire + Scorching Ray + Flame Wall (none of which do "Ignite") on the same target. Will the resulting burning ground inherit only the strongest burning damage (Righteous Fire), or maybe it will add all burning damages per tick together into one new DoT? Imo without last option, Flame Surge remains pretty meh even after all attempts to buff it. It is poor for mapping because of narrow AoE and poor for bossing because of low dps, unless you go full totem on it (hard to augment both hit/crit and DoT capabilities on the same character, considering insane defense requirements present). Not all burning damage is ignite.
RF, scorching ray and flame wall cannot inflict ignite. Only hits can inflict ignite. "buff grenades"

I am aware of that, yet I clearly saw burning ground appear when hitting RF-scorching ray affected mobs with flame surge, and without any fire damage hit capability on me at the moment.

Impossible. You probably threw a projectile through your flame wall and that projectile ignited the enemy.

You can check my profile, Minaslin char. I don't have any projectiles, and Flame Surge is the only hit source on me (Flame dash and Molten shell are not the culprits, tested with DoT specifically)

Okay, found the reason for my misunderstanding, sorry for confusion. Flame Surge is trash skill again (what a surprise). Maybe GGG could make it work with all sources of burning damage, would have made it useful outside of totem builds, and it also won't scale further for totems, since burning ground does not stack.

its 25% more damage for ignite builds for free its hard to call that trash :p
Yes it sucks as a standalone they turned it into a supplementary skill to ignite which is a shame really, its original character was OK. |

I always thought flame surge had potential, but it's never been given the attention that it needs. It's too cumbersome to use. I've tried playing it several times, but it just doesn't work well for a main skill.
I don't think I've tried it since they increased the damage. Increasing the damage doesn't make it less cumbersome to play. |
