the strange chaos resistance !
its really strange how this game treats chaos resistance its so much vs the player !
first you can't craft an item with chaos resistance no recipe ! then its very rare in passive skill tree even if you think no problem i will get items you find them rare also and not with great chaos resistance meanwhile the game gives you a big negative status of chaos resistance to deal with if you say what the heck i will ignore it then you will find lots of chaos damage enemies attacking you specially in caves and dungeons . why poe treats chaos resistance like this ? it looks controlled not coincidence We shall go on playing Or find a new town Last edited by Pr3scient#4510 on Oct 4, 2022, 5:39:58 AM Last bumped on Oct 5, 2022, 9:47:11 PM

"You can bench craft 15% ele res + 15% chaos res if you have unveiled the respective recipe. "The game is (supposedly) balanced around trade. In trade league its not very hard to cap your chaos resist if you dont need lots of special things on gear for your build. And in SSF you need more game knowledge to compensate for such things. "Its probably intended as an extra challenge to make it harder to make complete good builds. No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!

" The reason why chaos resistance for the most part is treated harsher to obtain vs elemental sources is because it's also a lot less oppressively found within the game or the enemies. I'd argue about 90% of the game is either elemental or physical damage, 6% is strictly chaos damage over time, with 4% being actual on hit chaos damage that is also deadly) Right now the most commonly found enemy you'd encounter, that have a strong on-hit chaos damage attack that could theoretically burst you down quickly are vaal constructs (the small pillar that shoot either a single, barrage, or a spam of projectiles) and Archnemesis mod with Chaosweaver (technically you could include Toxic, but that one poisons you, rather than burst you down [unless you let yourself get hit by Toxic balls from rares]). Here's a list of ways you could attempt in getting chaos resistance in some way or form, that are all viable for SSF play: - Soul of Arakaali, when upgraded, gives you 40% chaos res against for damage over time - Using the crafting bench for hybrid Element + Chaos res (Up to 15%) after completing a few Juns (You get that one really quickly, seriously) - Using harvest with reforge Chaos on any type of armour piece will always guarantee you to have chaos res + random mods - Essences of Envy grant chaos res on all types of armour + belts - You can vendor recipe yourself up a magic ring / amulett with amethyst flasks, which is rather out of the way, but an option nonetheless You're absolutly right that chaos resistance is treated more difficult to obtain, but it's also a lot more uncommon to encounter, hence why it is not a coincidence than a deliberate decision |

some other reasons are
-chaos cant reflect -there is only 1 chaos dmg endgame boss atm as far as i can remember -you dont need maximum chaos resi, everything above 0% is fine in endgame before you really min/max your charr in endgame amethyst rings are a good option( implicit up to 23% chaos resi without catalyst) i kinda alwys use these until i get good atlas only rings unless i have enither enough chaos resi on other items or i find really good ones with like a alva temple mod or syndicate mod |

" If you exclude Al-Nehzmin (The Hunter Conqueror), you'd be looking at Sirius as the only endgame fight that has ANY noteable sources of chaos damage to speak of, yes. On top of it, Sirius is very much optional. Argueablly speaking, occassionally in the shaper fight, one of the bosses can be the map boss based on the weaver in Act 2, but even with -60% res I never felt truelly in danger fighting that one, and since she isn't majorly buffed with map mods, it's not much to speak of |

Chaos resist is nice to have but you absolutely do not have to cap it. Currently I'm playing a CI build so that's a different story, but on life builds I usually aim to get two tier 1 affixes on gear which brings it to above 0%. I'm quite comfortable with 0-30% chaos resist - at this level i'm not facing flat oneshots anymore.
Capping chaos resist is recommended if you use something like Divine Flesh which converts elemental damage taken to be taken as chaos damage instead - then obviously you need to cap it. |

Chaos Damage was originally used as a sorta "True Damage" back in the day.
Least that's how I saw it. It's been warped over time. To this day I'm not sure if Chaos bypassing ES was ever a good idea. We have gotten more sources of it, the craft mentioned, Cluster Jewels and passive tree nodes. Most my builds have -30% to 0%. It's not a big deal unless you make it one like in Excavation. Besides AN has turned the game back into the typical vaporize things before they do stuff. "Never trust floating women." -Officer Kirac

There are quite a few more notable chaos damage sources in the game that haven't been mentioned yet.
Betrayal has It that Fled, Aisling and Tora who do heavy chaos damage. The Elder Guardian Constrictor users poison and chaos damage. Aside from Al Hezmin himself, if you run maps with his influence there will also be a lot of chaos damage from his mobs, especially the snakes and the archers that use toxic rain. Simulacrums often have phys as chaos modifiers so if you plan on going past wave 15 in there you should at least be positive, if you aim for a full clear you'll want maxed out chaos res, even if it is with the help of flasks. AN mods Chaos Weaver and Toxic have been mentioned already but i'd like to point out that Toxic is completely harmless with capped chaos and still fairly deadly with 0 chaos. It's up to you whether you see that as an issue to address. Exarch altars also often give phys as chaos mods to bosses/mobs so careful what you pick there if your chaos res is low. |
