Boss corpse explosions in the Maven fight
Bosses exploding the corpses of other bosses is a funny meme that dates back to the early days of the game, and it's not the MOST unfair mechanic as long as you can anticipate it (e.g. rolling "double boss" on your Alira map like a certain streamer did many years ago). However, it feels totally unfair when you can't reasonably anticipate and react to it... such as when fighting Maven.
As far as I can tell, there are 3 bosses capable of corpse explosion at the moment - Tolman (Mausoleum), Alira (Burial Chambers etc.), and Maligaro (Museum): - I've never actually seen Alira appear during the Maven fight and I think there's a chance that you disabled her from appearing here. (if not, then everything I discuss below applies to Alira too!) - I'm pretty sure that you did... something to the Mausoleum boss (Tolman) so that his corpse explosion skill doesn't feel totally unfair during his map encounter, and I think this change carried over to the Maven fight too. In particular, if his little corpse explosion brand thingy is no longer capable of detonating boss corpses, that would seem like a fair and reasonable fix. - That leaves the Museum boss (Maligaro). Guess who instantly killed me during the Maven fight, with a single clean one-shot, against a truly MEGATANK character? Watch the next 10 seconds of this clip and tell me if it looks like a fair scenario to you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alGal36JKc0&t=139s So what happened there is that Maven spawns 3 new bosses (including Maligaro), and 1.5 seconds later, Maligaro decides to cast Detonate Dead on the "corpse" of a boss that Maven DE-SPAWNED (not "killed") from the previous wave - a "corpse" that isn't even visible to me, the player (it even has a special "erase" animation applied to it which proves that it is deliberately being made invisible!). Now, this situation is dumb and unfair IMO, but what makes it even worse is that there is virtually no way to survive this attack because of the absurd scaling at work here. According to some poedb values, which may not be 100% correct but are surely close enough: - A typical level 84 boss monster (the Maven's zone level) appears to have about 11 million HP. - Maligaro's Detonate Dead skill does 1% of a corpse's life as fire damage, and 20% of this is *converted to chaos* (ugh...). That works out to about an 88,000 damage fire hit, and a RIDICULOUS 22,000 damage chaos hit! - If you do the math (which I'll spare you from here) you'll quickly discover that no non-CI character has a realistic chance of tanking both an 88k fire hit AND a 22k chaos hit. The 22k chaos damage is especially absurd - nothing else in the game comes anywhere close to this magnitude. People like to abuse the term "overtuned", but a 22,000 chaos damage hit definitely qualifies. - Keep in mind that the corpse explosion from Detonate Dead can't be spell suppressed, has basically an instant cast and/or no wind-up animation (which you can see in the video), and this entire situation has a very low chance of occurring during any particular Maven encounter (which does NOT make it more OK - quite the contrary in fact, since this means you can't ever really justify trying to prepare for it, if there even was anything you could do, which there really isn't). To prevent this from turning into any more of an incoherent rant about unfair game mechanics, in summary and in conclusion: 1. Boss corpse explosions have no place in the Maven arena (or any other place where the player didn't deliberately opt-in to the situation). This goes for players trying to explode boss corpses too! Just make the boss corpses TRULY de-spawn so they cannot be interacted with by anyone here. 2. If you REALLY did intend for this sort of thing to be some kind of deliberate "gotcha" scenario when dealing with the Maven (which I don't believe, it seems more like an oversight to me) - at least make sure that the corpses on the ground aren't invisible, and Detonate Dead probably isn't fair as an instant-speed/no-wind-up cast in this situation either. Maybe the Museum Boss (and Alira too if applicable) shouldn't be allowed to instantly detonate invisible level 84 boss corpses? Or maybe they just shouldn't be invited to join the Maven fight at all? Just maybe? ;) Last edited by Fightgarr#3134 on Sep 18, 2022, 3:05:02 PM Last bumped on Nov 19, 2022, 6:32:35 PM

this also just happened to me as well in the same fight.(i was also a jugg with very tanky stats- 88 fire res/85 cold/82 lightning-100k armour (without flasks) unbreakable allocated (the jugg armour applies to ele hits node) 6 endurance charges, 6.1k hp. 3k life regen. instantly deleted. i went back and watched the vod, and aberath was cycled out (not killed, just cycled out) in the same spot where i was detonated. feels very bad to have a character with that amount of ehp just deleted due to a game bug/oversight. commenting, and bumping for visibility. hopefully this can be fixed soon, as im not sure any character can survive that, and there is no way of even knowing youre in danger.

I foolishly did a few more mavens today and noticed that KAALIA THE RISEN can also spawn... I did not notice her cast her detonate dead (which i'm willing to bet also has a chaos-conversion component) but I don't trust this fight at all anymore. I'd appreciate you double-checking kaalia's balance in this fight at the same time as the other 3 I listed. 4 possible sources of boss corpse explosions is getting kind of ridiculous. (just replace all 4 of them in the maven fight with bosses that we all know cannot possibly cast DD or any of its variations, eh?)
