damage taken recouped as life wording when the value is negative

I have made the flask permanent ... it lasts for 18 seconds and at 4 seconds remaning flask becomes full and it's used automatically... anyway...I tried to do maps and I die randomly with the flask on and with full energy shield to almost any monster in the game ... I thought initially it was culling strike ... and I asked more people that know the game better than I do and they said only the unique monsters/expedition mods and rogue exiles have that mechanic ...Please help!!!

Update: the issue is the wording on the negative recoup mechanic (i had a ring with negative recoup) ... if it's negative logical conclusion is that you don`t get anything back .. but the fact that you actually lose your life ... is not described anywhere!!!

You have a ring with -29% of damage recouped as life, and Coruscating Elixir removes all life but 1.

Even if you usually have enough life regen for that, it sounds like a bad combination.
so less damage recouped as life ... how does that affect life itself ? I don`t get it ... it's not saying 30% of damage is removed from life ... just less damage recoup... it should not affect me in any way or form .. unless I invest in recouping.. and then if I would have recouped 40% ... -29% I would only have 11% recoup left ... in this case ... I`m not getting any damage to recoup as life ... that should still not affect me in any way, shape or form ...

0 - 29 = -29
aka a hit that hits you for 100 will cause you to lose 29 life over 4 seconds.
-29% damage taken recouped as life ... who in his right mind would think that this does damage to you ?? in what world this makes sense ? I asked the whole guild ... I asked a lot of people in the last hours ... since I removed that ring and everyone said that the wording for this does not describe what it does ... @ GGG please ... stop giving us "nearby" mechanics ... how about an accurate description for this affix ???

We know how recoup normally works and we know that items mirrored in the Lake have some of their affixes changed into negative versions. So positive recoup makes you recover life (or mana) over time based on damage taken from hits, and consequently the negative version of that makes you lose life over time.

Sure it'd been better if the description was clearer and I too would like to see it changed, but given the context it's also fairly easy to understand how it actually works.

Other ring modifiers that get negative flips cause you to "lose" life, meaning they aren't affected by modifiers to recovery/regeneration.

By making negative "recouped as life" only count as life loss if your total "recouped as life" is negative, you should at least be able to deal with it with regular "recouped as life" bonuses. Rings with "lose life per second", the negative of "life regenerated per second", just screw you on "no regen" maps or if you use Zealoth's Oath.
it is not intuitive at all ... the way I see it ... 29% of damage recouped as life ... means YOU RECOVER 29% of DAMAGE .... -29% of damage recouped as life means no damage is recouped ... in no way someone would see this and think you are losing 29% of life ... it just does not make any sense !!! I have a few thousand hours and did not think that this is a bad modifier ... the wording should be "29% of damage is recouped from your own life" to make any sense at all

When recoup was introduced a few leagues ago, it was already clarified that it recovers the stated %amount of the hit being recouped.

This league, turning the recoup negative does exactly what is says, further lost life based on the % of the hit.

it needs to be clarified in the wording ... it needs to say you lose life if you get hit ... not less damage (negative damage) is recouped as life that would imply that less damage would be recouped still, not that you lose life due to negative recoup ... you understand the grammar problem?
