Frequent 300 ms Lag Spikes
|
Hello,
This is my first league since moving to a location with google fiber. I have had no latency issues before starting the league. Every once in a while I will get some clusters of frequent 300 ms lag spikes, where other latency testing will give me ~15 ms ping. I did the MTR network testing and here are the results: |------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | WinMTR statistics | | Host - % | Sent | Recv | Best | Avrg | Wrst | Last | |------------------------------------------------|------|------|------|------|------|------| | 192.168.86.1 - 0 | 376 | 376 | 0 | 71 | 301 | 10 | | 10.26.2.43 - 0 | 376 | 376 | 1 | 72 | 301 | 26 | | No response from host - 100 | 76 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | | No response from host - 100 | 76 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | | 192-119-18-212.mci.googlefiber.net - 0 | 376 | 376 | 2 | 78 | 315 | 11 | | ve553.core2.slc1.he.net - 47 | 132 | 70 | 2 | 81 | 316 | 14 | | salt-b2-link.ip.twelve99.net - 0 | 376 | 376 | 2 | 79 | 315 | 12 | | palo-b24-link.ip.twelve99.net - 0 | 376 | 376 | 16 | 94 | 317 | 27 | | sjo-b23-link.ip.twelve99.net - 0 | 376 | 376 | 18 | 97 | 549 | 27 | |datacamp-svc079873-lag004084.ip.twelve99-cust.net - 0 | 376 | 376 | 18 | 96 | 317 | 27 | | vl203.sjc-eq10-dist-2.cdn77.com - 0 | 376 | 376 | 17 | 95 | 317 | 27 | | unn-169-150-221-75.datapacket.com - 0 | 376 | 376 | 18 | 97 | 317 | 27 | |________________________________________________|______|______|______|______|______|______| WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider I'm not entirely sure how to "read" this, but it appears to me that "ve553.core2.s1c1.he.net" is where the issue lies. That's not an issue. Ping packets are being dropped from that location, means nothing unless it would carry on through to the end.
300 ms right at your home router/modem. Wired or wireless. Wireless, try going wired. Could be some interferrence floating aorund as well if wireless. Wired, hrrmm. Probably have to contact your ISP. There may be something up with your line in the house/out to the street or it could be as simple as updating the router firmware etc. "Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. This is wireless, I will swap to wired and see if that helps at all. Thanks for the suggestion!

I think the location/network also plays into this, if you are at a hotel for instance things like the building structure/devices in other rooms, or even the channel your network may be on (I think) could also effect this.

Hey guys, I made a super thread for High Latency and Lag Spike issues. If you are having these issues, please post in the following thread.
