Area Damage passives do not affect AoE skills
| Hi. I've noticed this league, that picking Blast Radius and Amplify notables (as well as accompanying small points) didn't affect my damage output listed in-game. Not at all. The skills I read damage per second for were Hexblast, Lightning Conduit and Divine Ire. They're all AoE skills with said tag present in the gem. At this point I'm sure this affects more gems... Please look into it, as I don't know if the displayed dps number is wrong or if these passives really have no effect. Thanks! | Those gems (except maybe hexblast because im not to familiar with it) dont actually deal damage in an AoE they just have an AoE component that can be larger. In LC's case its the AoE that the lightning can strike a shocked target and with divine ire its the aoe of the channel. In each case though the damage is not done in with the AoE, LC strikes shocked targets individually and divine ire hits 5 targets inside its AoE. | |
| You certainly picked some interesting targets to check with! Hexblast deals single-target damage to the targetted monster, so modifiers to AoE damage wouldn't change that, and probably won't appear in the DPS display either. The damage dealt around the monster when a hex is removed is area damage, and should benefit from area damage modifiers. Lightning Conduit targets enemies in an area to damage. Rather than "dealing damage in a area", it "selects enemies in an area that meet its conditions, then damages targetted enemies". Its damage will not benefit from area damage modifiers. Divine Ire has two damage components, periodic zaps and the beam. The beam's damage is reflected on the gem as "Beam deals more damage with (hits/ailments) per stage after the first", so the damage the gem displays can be interpreted as the damage of the zaps. Similar to Lightning Conduit, the zaps "target enemies in an area", and is not affected by area damage modifiers. The beam, on the other hand, should benefit from these modifiers. | |
| Alright, thanks for clarifying the case! | |
