Targeted Loot - A loot system from The Division 2
I don't know if this is a requested feature that's showing up very commonly, or hasn't been requested yet.
Whilst a very different game compared to PoE, The Division 2 uses an amazing system called Targeted Loot. Every 8 hours or so, the entire world map has different loot allocations that have a higher chance of dropping called Targeted Loot. For example, in a mission, Grand Washington Hotel, at one time there is a higher chance of getting Assault Rifles, whereas another rotation may result in giving you Striker's Battlegear Gearset pieces. On top of this, the 2 most recent PvE game-modes, The Summit and Countdown gives the player the ability to select certain loot he'd like to drop. Anything from specific gun types to brand sets to gear sets pieces can be selected, and has a chance of dropping at any rarity. Whilst I know that deterministic drops aren't something that's widely accepted, the inclusion of certain ways to deterministically get access to content, like blocking stuff on the Atlas Tree, allows players to pick what they want to play, and if they did something for loot, it would take this to another level! I think that the Targeted Loot system could be an amazing addition to a new league mechanic. The increased drop chance doesn't have too high, maybe just 5-7% increased chance will be enough to visibly make a difference My idea of it being implemented could be: 1. Similar to the Blight Atlas node that has a small chance to drop maps with an "Areas contain a Blight encounter"; GGG could add an Atlas passive cluster like Breach or Bestiary, that has a line that says "Area contains higher chance of dropping Jewelry" or "Areas contain higher chance of dropping Evasion Gear" as an implicit mod that cannot be changed. 2. Adding a mod to the mod-pool of maps that says "Areas have higher chance of dropping Shields + 50% increased Monster Life and Damage" 3. Have a new league mechanic or add a map currency that allows players to use Orbital Beacons. These Beacons can be used like old sextants, and affect all maps within an area of the Atlas, and they can be rolled multiple times. Also, to restrict players from stacking multiple sextants to buff one specific map, add a restriction to maps that allows only one Beacon to be used at a time. These Beacons also have a use limit of 5-10, that randomly rolls everytime it's used. 4. Bring back Map Regions like Lex Ejoris, Valdo's Rest, Haewark Hamlet, etc. Each section is on a 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 / 12 / 24 or 48 hour rotation. Each region has a specific loot drop unique to that area. For example, one rotation has New Vastir have a higher chance to drop Jewels, and another rotation could have it have a higher chance to drop Gems. This also encourages players to play different maps, instead of only farming one map (which I don't have a problem with, but I thought that if players want to explore more variety, this is one way to do so) I think adding some sort of target farming loot that can be changed / modified by the player helps the economy. Feel free to share what you think about this, or how GGG could implement this. Last edited by ThePotatoJohn#0787 on Aug 16, 2022, 9:28:06 AM Last bumped on Aug 18, 2022, 1:11:45 AM

Maybe something like fossils but for maps?
Not a bad idea, but even with more targeted drops, the drops on average will still be garbage. The game has too many prefixes, suffixes and tiers. Getting a good drop aside from uniques is just rare. With trade it works out... without trade less so. Its why you craft items you want, instead of relying on drops. Assuming you don't want to trade / can't find an item. “We are the race of flesh, We are the race of lovers.” Last edited by Frostride#6705 on Aug 16, 2022, 9:34:37 AM

" I know it's a stretch, but maybe this is a way to incorporate recombinators, that drop as super-uber rare drops that can be used for crafting, and again, you can target farm which kind of recombinator you want. If you're farming areas with higher chance of dropping One-handed weapons, then it has a very rare chance of dropping Weapon recombinators. |

Destiny 2, another action-looter has something similar with specific gear slots on a weekly/daily rotation as well as vendors that have randomly rolled gear available weekly (sometimes really good, sometimes okay). It's a system that generally feels really good, especially with being able to target farm build-enabling pieces (exotics). There's also a number of sources for being able to farm gear as well as rng elements, while also maintaining and constant gear progression to become more and more powerful able to take on more and more challenging content. PoE will never have this level of loot farming, unfortunately.

" The system doesn't have to specifically say Unique Belts. That would be way too specific, and MF grinders or 6-man groups will easily be able to farm a ton of HH's and Magebloods. Instead, it could just be Belts as a target, or just Accessories which includes Rings, Belts and Amulets. Yes, 6-man groups and MF grinders may still be able to get more magebloods and HHs, but that is what makes targeted loot so good. In The Division 2, you need to run a mission 5-6 times, each taking anywhere from 7-12 minutes each, to maybe get an exotic (unique item), which may not even be the one you need. I am still on a grind for the Scorpio shotgun, and I've targeted the Summit and Countdown for over 5 months, and still haven't found it. Not only will this change make magebloods and headhunters easier to target farm, it will also drop the price they sell for on trade, making it that more accessible for more players to enjoy end-game builds. Isn't that what a PvE game is made for? To be able to grind for and successfully build a character that can do the endgame. I agree that you need to invest a significant amount of time into it to be able to access the endgame, but that it isn't a bad thing for more players to access the endgame. |

" in my opinion, items like mageblood and headhunter are there to "kill" builds on poe.ninja and other build sharing sites so people are forced to come up with other ideas and item combinations. builds having those items don't work without them and players don't easily get them. they are "chase items", means players keep playing until they get one. then they need new goals like owning a mirror or something to keep their motivation up to keep playing. bu that's just my theory. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
