Just beat normal last night. My damage is pretty abysmal (enemies with boosted life regen take forever to kill) but I'm pretty sure once this build is completel, I'll be able to afktank anything with a lot of +life gear. Really looking forward to PVPing with this and trolling people with my life regen. My Keystone Ideas: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/744282

Surprised you didn't take Cannot Be Stunned, or are you counting on your high Life pool making it hard for enemies to reach the threshold? =0[.]o=

So far, stun hasn't been a problem. I haven't really seen it as vital as some other stats, especially when I look ahead to PVP. I can see stun-locking be a bit of a problem, but I'll be using a shield with a decent amount of block recovery/stun recovery... Plus, I'll likely be using a fast sword to attack with, so being stunned a few times won't bother me too much. Admittedly, I haven't given stun much thought.
Currently only level 30 something, I already have close to 700 HP. So, I'm just guessing here, but I imagine 2100 life is easily possible at max level. Without endurance charges, that would put me at 155 life/s. Add in +life leech and +life on hit (which I hope to get a decent amount of on my melee weapon) and my fast attack speed and I'll likely have around 170 life/s while continuously attacking without any endurance charges. That pretty much means someone has to have more than 170 dps to damage me, and that if they want to kill me, they have to provide over 170 dps CONSTANTLY, meaning, mana can't be an issue. Right now at level 30, my base DPS for my one-handed sword is 110. After damage reduction, I'm sure it's much lower than this, so I'm assuming a decently specced person at max level has far and above over 170 dps. I'm not expecting to negate damage at max level with my life regen, though after resistances I'm looking to whittle someone down quite considerably. The fact they cannot leech life from me means I should theoretically be able to outlast a glassy DPSer's health, provided I use flasks smartly and am not bursted down. It's hard to say if this build will amount to anything - but I want to try going down the supertank route, since everyone else seems to be doing some kind of a glass build. Likely, I'm underestimating how high my HP can get. Currently I have around 40 hp/s, which is about 1/3 my base DPS with a one-handed weapon, so I imagine that kind of relationship will translate 60~ some levels from now, with my health regen negating 15-25% of a player's base DPS, my armor/resistances negating about 30-40% more. I would recommend doing a 70 point build instead of a 111 point one. It's pretty easy to get hp from equipment, 2k should be no problem at all, try shooting for 4k instead :)
You may want to look into some damage options to handle mobs if nothing else, because your dps is really low. Try getting some gloves with nice elemental damage mods. I'm not sure if "enemies cannot leech life" affects the Life Gain on Hit gem, but I suspect it doesn't. PvP damage is greatly reduced at high levels though the exact formula is kindof wonky (look it up in the mechanics thread) so regen may be quite useful but for PvE purposes I find that it's better to have a Life Gain on Hit support on Lightning Strike/Split Arrow or the like. For PvP I guess you should look into the kind of damage you might be taking and how large of a difference the regen will make. |

The only caveat on Life Gained on Hit goes back to stunning. If you get stunned (or frozen), your Life Gain stops, whereas regen keeps going, no matter what. If that's not an issue, then, yeah, LGoH is a nice option. =^[.]^=

You will waste 10 times the time to kill things, but will only get 3 times the survivability.
And thats after all the itemization. "It feels like holding my breath under water constantly." Me about the limited "life expectancy" of the inventory space on Path of Exile and frequent needs to go to town to unload.

Since you seem new I will fill you in on a few things to look forward to.
on my 0.9.7 mara tank he was level 63ish and had 7000 hp and had base regen around 500 hp/s then they patched and i played 0.9.8 a bit and had around 350 hp/s base regen, i think. at one point, i could solo chaos and never use my flasks, then they made monsters hit harder and slower, so i had to use flasks, but then they changed it back because non-tanks QQ'd so no more flask usage again. Anyways, all out hp tanks are fun! have fun! |
